Possible Weird Fuel Problem???

Hey guys. First post here. Been kind of a lurker for a while. Ok so I have a 95 Toyota 4Runner V6 4WD. I've had a few problems in the past with it but nothing major. Been an awesome truck. The other day I was about to leave work. I started it up just fine. I went to roll my windows down because my A/C doesn't work. I rolled the front 2 down and while rolling the back 2 down, it suddenly died.

After trying several times to start it, I noticed that NONE of my windows will now roll up. I work at a body shop, which is nice because I can get all parts at wholesale prices, and my boss suggested that it wasn't getting any fuel. I can confirm this because I removed the fuel intake line and very little pressure was behind it. I left it off and cranked it over a few times and nothing came out.

I have tried to replace the fuel pump relay but to no avail. Now I have a brand new pump and strainer that I am going to attempt to install.

Does ANYONE have any other ideas or things I could check? The fact that the windows stopped working after it died and no fuel coming in is very strange so I'm not sure if it's another relay that I havent checked yet or what. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to check all the fuses, and learn how to use an electrical multimeter.

Randomly changing out parts is not the way to go.

Yea I totally understand that. I just haven't had enough time to really work on it. It's stuck up here at work so I've just been taking suggestions from people to try and get it going so I can get it outta here.

Can you give me a good place to start checking? I have access to a meter just need to know the best place to start checking. Never really been good at electrical things on vehicles. More mechanical than electrical.

To anyone's knowledge, is there any relay or fuse/s that tie into both the fuel pump AND the power windows??

When you turn the key on, is your check engine light on or not?

FALLOW EVERYONES ADVISE AND FONT JUST CHANGE PARTS! Make sure your battery connections are good and you are getting 12+ volts. Check all the fuses in the box behind the battery and check the fuses by the drivers left foot. Check and advise. A more knowledgable yota tech should chime in soon. WYOMING9 where are you? Hahaha

The windows stopped so your gonna replace the fuel pump??? OKKKKKK... How about instead take LOGICAL steps LOL (you probably wasted your money on a fuel pump)

Put a meter on the battery and see if you get about 12.4-12.5v. If it's below say 12.1v, you need a new battery.

Start truck, see if you get 14v+. If not, might need a new alternator, or better ground wire connections.

The battery is the common denominator here.

Yes it will crank over and no there are no check engine lights on. I've checked the fuses and the battery...... What I have noticed is that the fuel pump is not working at all as I have removed the fuel intake line and left it off while trying to start it and no fuel coming out at all.

I am going to try using a multimeter this weekend and check things but I dont know really anything about the relays and their respective uses and locations. This whole thing has just been really weird. The fact that it has been running great up until the other day. Now all of my windows will not work and the fuel pump is not pumping.

Oh, it still doesn't run? Charging system not working well would make low voltage which equals higher amperage load when you were trying to roll up the windows, which means you probably just blew a fuse. Or have a bad ground. Check all your ground locations, battery to body, battery to block, intake manifold to firewall. There are two fuse panels, I supposed you've checked fuses in both? Fuel pumps usually don't just suddenly fail completely like that.

When it cranks with no check Engine light the vehicle will not turn over because the fuel pump relay is not working. I had this condition happened to me in my old 92 Toyota pick up with the 3 L it was my wires on the bottom of my EFI fuse relay that would not make contact with the relay. On the on the left side of the engine compartment there's a fuse box there's a big relay that says EFI on the top that relay out and make sure that the wires underneath are not crammed down make sure that the wires are making good contact with the relay. If the vehicle cranks over and there is no check engine light on again the Fuel pump is not getting signal from the ECM. Turn the key on but don't start the vehicle is there a check engine light on?

Got it fixed guys. It ended up being the AM1 40amp fuse blown. Once I replaced that windows and fuel pump started working and it fired right up ............Only problem now is I've got a manual toggle switch for my ignition and now when I flip the switch to shut it off it doesnt shut off. The dash lights and everything else shuts off but the engine stays running. Any thoughts????????

Well, who knows how screwey the toggle swith wiring was done??

Can you ask the guy who done it????

The best fix would certainly be to restore the wiring to what the factory made.

Here is an image of what I've got back on it. I've replaced the switch since it was only $4
