possible engine swap?

my cousin just got a honda prelude, and is going to upgrade his engine. He is going to get rid of his stock jg30 engine, and so i am wondering if i should consider taking it off his hands and putting it in my 1986 4runner. Question i have is will the jg30 engine fit in my 4runner? will i have to do alot of customization to get it to work? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

welcome to the site.... size wise it might fit as people have put chvy 350s in their toyota... however it will require a lot of custom fabrication work.... most likely its not going to happen becasue it seems you are relatively in experienced and not just that but they are completely differnt manufactures and no one has doen this swap befroe... also isnt the honda front wheel drive? thats just insane.....

so basically if you have a million dollars you could do it... if not, nope its not going to happen

""i should consider taking it off his hands and putting it in my 1986 4runner. Question i have is will the jg30 engine fit in my 4runner""

my opinion is
#1 it still will be under powered .
#2 lots of fabrication to adapt the honda motor to toyota transmission, motor mounts bell housing , etc etc.....
#3 it will be cheaper to build a HP toyota 22 r then droping a honda motor on a truck
#4 check out Lc engineering or tcr web site im sure they have what you need to modify a 22 r motor .

no the honda engine is rear wheel drive. I kinda figured that i would still be underpowered, but it would definately be better then the stock 22re that comes in it. when talking about the fabrication though i see that mounting to the tranny and everything else would be a pain.

ok it still isnt worth it...... you could do a 350 swap cheaper than this because stuff is already made to do it... the r&d has been done.....

Forget a 350. Go with a 7MGTE. It will bolt right up to your stock tranny and engine mounts.

not to mention honda engines spin backwards compared to other automotive engines.

i wouldn't waste my time with a high revving engine with no torque in a truck though...

I've never heard of this engine. Do you have any specs?

That's what I was thinking. A Prelude would be an F or H series, wouldn't it? JG30 sounds like a Nissan engine code.

Also, if it is a honda motor, the rotate the opposite direction of most engines. Also I think your cousing meant the vg30de out of the 300zx. Its a decent motor, but not great. Really suped up vg30dett only make around 550, which for a twin turbo motor, isn't great. I'd personally sell the motor and use the money to upgrade the 22re or swap in a 3rz.

Maybe this engine? Might be a bit underpowered.
