Exhaust Options

Okay there has benn alot of talk on this forum about exhaust lately and now that is what I want next for my Runner. I have read every post about exhaust so far and was wondering if you guys would do a little poll for me to see what the prefered system is on this forum. My thing about the exhasut would be that I want it to give me a good bark when I get on the throttle, and when at idle just give me a nice low rumble. Either than that I would prefer not to be heard coming from a mile down the road(in other words not sound bigger than I am, I hate the sound of little Honda's trying to be alot bigger than they are, I want something that matches my truck).

I voted for the Magnaflow, mainly because that's what I have, and I love it. One of the guys at the exhaust shop was trying to sell me a Flowmaster 60 Series, which would of been like $50 more than the Magnaflow. He kept telling me that most people who drive trucks go with the 40 Series Flowmaster, but the 60 Series if better for gas mileage and is a softer sound. So I just told him No thanks, I want the Magnaflow. Mainly because all I ever hear around town are Flowmasters, and i'm sick of hearing them And because everyone I talked to on these forums that has a Magnaflow absolutely LOVES it, and I am now one of them

The Magnaflow will definitely give you a nice big bark when you hit the throttle, and it has a VERY nice low rumble when you're idling. Believe me the Magnaflow sounds absolutely NOTHING like those little rice rockets. When you hear it, you know that it something BIG

So In my opinion you can't go wrong with the Magnaflow Although I am biased. I've also heard very good things about the Dynomax, the reason I didn't get a Dynomax, is because it's not as loud as the Magnaflow, and I wanted a nice loud muffler

Goodluck with your new system

-Braden

P.S> Also I've found that the sound of the Magnaflow goes VERY well while listening to the following bands... System of a Down, Disturbed, Ozzy, White Zombie, and Pearl Jam (the only CDs i've listened to while driving since i got the new exhaust )

My muff guy is actually trying to point me away from those and towards a FloPro muff. I'm not going for a roar, I just want to hear it growl. We spent about an hour yesterday going over what I wanted, what he had, and what my options were. Dynomax must have really done something to piss him off, he is the only authorized dealer in this town, and refuses to carry any in stock and will only order it with protest.

Anyhow, anyone with experiences with flopro muffs? Or should I find another shop.

Of course I too voted for the Magnaflow.
The Flopro is very nice. In fact is is almost like a Magnaflow.

I have heard one several times as Todd has one on his '88 4Runner with the 3.0 V6.
Very nice sounding.

Todd, comments?

Okay really now, the results are spilt 50/50 between the two systems I was looking at the most serious. Some more people need to jump in on this vote and let me have some kind of winner to look over more closely, haha. Everyone seems to be just as split and confused on this subject as I am . Thanks to everyone who already gave me some feedback.

From what I was told when I was trying to decide which muffler to get, the Dynomax gives kind of a soft growl, and the Magnaflow give a louder growl. I personally picked the Magnaflow, because I wanted a louder growl A good idea would be to goto Corey's page and check out his exhaust page, you can listen to some different exhausts on there, and decide which you like more.

Been there many times, playing around and trying to get a feel for things, I'm not even really sure what I want. I know it's b/w the magnaflow and dynomax. I don't want to be heard coming a mile down the road or anything so the low level of dynomax apeals to me, but I don't want it to be so low that I never really feel/hear the change. Ah well guess it boils down to me in the end, like always, but that's not always a bad thing. Thanks for all the help guys, especially Corey, your page of exhaust sounds is the best tool in this decesion for me.

Well, again I can't vote (who the hell knows why), but I would vote for Magnaflow. I know that that is the loudest muffler. The Dynomax muffler that I have is not that loud. It sounds nice, but I did not want it too loud. I would vote for Magnaflow. :fireman:

Actually the Vortex is the loudest, but it's not listed here.
Ryan, you on some funky browser again

What are you surfing the site here with?
I know it will work from your school with the Mac, but it is some setting at your home, or you are not using Netscape or IE to surf with?

Well, I am using AOL. It has its own browser. So what I did was sign on here and started IE. I then tried to vote and it worked. So I am guessing that AOL does not allow this type of operation, but it is fixed with IE. I guess I will just have to go on under IE and vote. I am glad that you helped me figure that out Corey. I was so pissed off. But now I know and that is cool. Thanks! LOL...another reason YOU ARE THE MAN. Thanks buddy! :fireman:

He he he, IE is a lot better than a browser from AOL.
I thoght they got rid of their browser years ago.

A few years back they were bundling Netscape with the software I thought, then they switched to IE.

I have not used AOL though since Early '95.
I switched to Netcom March of '95, and used their browser for a bit until I found out about Netscape 2 or 3.
What a diiference going to it.

Now it's been IE for me for the past few years.
Nutscrape really went down hill, and got super buggy.
I only use the Composer part of Nutscrape to build web pages with.

I am glad you are able to vote now.
It's everyones right to vote

Yup I feel your pain BTOWN4RUNNER, I can't vote on any polls either. Stupid AO(hell). I can use the macs and other computers at school all day long to vote, but I come home and I get screwed. Why the heck does AO(hell) have to make themselves feel big by using their own browsers. Ah well enough cry'n for now. Thanks for the suggestions, I will be sure to keep the updates on my mods coming(as soon as they start going on, lift comes this weekend , I R Happy). I uped my hours at good ol' Home Depot so I could start the pool for an exhaust ASAP. Thanks again guys.

I got the ProFlow muffler with 2.25 pipes. Sounds good to me.... has a nice growl at low ends, and when you get around 45mph or so, you don't hear much of anything, fairly quiet. I actually didn't like it at first, i'm not much into louder mufflers...I'm used to the stock that is nice and quiet. Just got it 2 days ago, and I will stick with it.

I did ask about the magna mufflers, and the guy steered me away from those. He said he has had to do "waranty" work on a few recently. But then again, he was prolly just giving me a sales pitch. He prolly gets a spiff on selling ProFlow mufflers **note: I am clueless on mufflers so I just went with whatever he recommended. He does alot of work for the 4x4 store here in town, so I trusted him.

They did an awesome job on the pipes. Totally a clean install, and the tailpipe is more or less hidden. Totally out of the way for when I go 4whellin. Very satisfied.

I got the FloPro this morning and I must say, I *HATE* it. It makes the truck sound like a ****ing rice rocket. My truck also starts to stall when I slow down now. I will be back at the muffler shop tomorrow morning at 7:30am to get rid of this thing. I guess I will see if I can try a magnaflow, and if not, then back to stock I go.

Flo Pro is almost the same as my Magnaflow.
But I would not say it sounds like a rice rocket at all.
Just the oppisite.

Mine has a V8 type of tone. Sounds really nice.
If they do have the Mag, try the same part # I have that is lsted on my exhaust page.

Hey LSUMatt1514 I noticed that you had a tip on your Runner to go w/ your Dynomax. I was wondering what kind of tip you wre running, I would really like to change out my tip along w/ my muffler, not so much for sound(but I guess it couldn't hurt) but for the look, I have an earlier 3rd gen with chrome bumbers and a black exhaust tip looks out of place, I would much rather match a nice chrome tip or stainless steel tip w/ the bumpers. Anybody have other suggestios on tips, let me know.
