Please help answer: 880s or Tundra for minimal lift

After going back and forth on this I have decided I dont want ANYTHING more than 1.5" of lift up front on my Tacoma -
Neil suggested the Tundra coils, by themselves, will only provide 1.5" - if this is true I will run them - but I dont want to get home throw the coils on and have the front lifted over 2" -there seem to be mixed reports on lift amounts on tacomas using the tundras

As far as the OME 880s go - I know liftwise I will be safe with these - I was looking at adding two trim packers to the drivers side and one to the passenger side - hoping to get around 1.25-1.5" after they settle.

SOMEONE please help me with this debacle once and for all.

rig info is in the sig

I can't tell you about the tundra coils, but I can tell you for sure that the OME's will give you only about 1.5 inch of lift.

I can also tell you that I'll be pulling my OME 881's (medium coils) this weekend and will be selling them real cheap.

edit: I see you have 881's already. with the tjm shouldn't you be around 1.5" already?

ahhhh - no - I edited my sig before I got the coils!

anyways - I am running stock coils now

the TJM 17 is only 40 lbs heavier then the stock bumper- I dont see how it will make much of a difference

I am pretty much now the most indecisive person on the face of the planet

the coils are ~475#/in, so ~40# more weight will = less than 0.10" difference in height.

the tundra coils on a tacoma have been in the 1.75" to 2" range for lift, but not over and NOT 1.5". If you can tolerate UP TO 2" of front lift, then you'll be fine, but I'd suggest some of the 2WD TRD Coils since they're slightly less coil rate (according to some of the tundrasolutions guys) and therefore will be a hair shorter than the 4WD coils on your tacoma.

with any coil, you will get a little more lift on a taco than compared to a 4runner b/c there is some pretty significant weight difference up front. you'll also feel a slightly stiffer ride because of the less weight riding on the springs.

Andy- thanks I have been taking forever deciding this -
I am wary of the 881s as some people run them on tacos and get around 2" - the 1st gen tacos CVs have tended to have quite a bit of problems even around 2" from what I've gathered.

The problem with the 880s is some taco guys have said they will settle to .75" or even .5" - which is just too low as I Might be adding 32s - I dont know if this is true or just a rumor mill sort of thing as it seems there are not many people running 880s that I know of.

If you were to venture a guess, do you think the 2wd TRD tundras would give 1.5" or less?

Ride is not a big deal at all.....

I got 1.5" EXACTLY on my runner. I'd say that you'd be more like 1.75". They will be about 1/4" higher for a day or so then settle to ~1.75". That will be the end of the settling. They won't sag.

Andy - that 1.5" was acheived with your Sahara bar correct? thats a real heavy bumper right?

1.75 is too much -

there just doesnt seem to be a solution that will give me 1.25-1.5"

880s - .75"? (after settling)

881s 1.75"-2.00"

Tundra TRD: 1.75"?

?: 1.25-1.5"

edit: I really would like to avoid preloading the coils

sure there is... use your stock coils w/ some cornfed spacers, but then again, you prelaod the coils. but, since they're stock coils, it won't be harsh by any means. I have the sahara that's not much more than a stock 99 bumper w/ the impact bar and all that crap. what weighs the most is the winch.

w/ +~30 for the sahara, +75 for the winch & syn line, and +20 for the SC, i still got right at 2.0".

SS3 got 2.0" w/ a TJM T17 and a winch w/ syn line.

Gapguy got 2.0" w/ a Sahara and no winch.

however, on the older tacos like yours, i've had two people tell me that they got 2.0" from the coil springs alone without a top spacer. that was before settling and before an alignment, so i'll bet those went down 1/4" or so just like everyone else's did.

allright so in everyones opinion (everyone in this case meaning andy) my best option would be to run a spacer on my stock coils (70k) instead of running the OME 880s with trimpackers?

the 475#/in is at the coil. the bumper will pivot around the front axle, probably about a foot away or so. so the 40# will be multiplied by a bunch as measured by the spring.
