Ok so on my gauge cluster there is that cool looking "clear" plastic cover thingy right the one that slants down and protects your gauges. . . I " " clear because mine is "milky" towards the bottom, i was wondering if this was common on toyotas or just on my tacoma. or if anyone has heard of a fix for it short of buying a new one and putting it in, dash disassembly and reassembly just doesn't exicte me that much.

 

Mine is not as clear as it should be either...my Supra did the same thing, so I just bought a new one from toyota. You can buy the actual clear piece seperately ~ $20ish. Not bad considering you spend the whole time in the truck looking at it.

Taking the instrument cluster is very simple:

Four 10mm bolts
About 7-8 philips head screws.

The other alternative to purchasing the $20 plastic cover is to use varying degrees of wet sand paper. But if I were you, I'd just buy a new cover.

Of note the 99-00 glass is only $18.69. No clue as to why.

I recently bought some fine scratch remover and plastic polish made specifically for plastics. I bought them from a local plasitcs manufacterer to polish the plexi I have over my ampracks, but I figured, hey, why not polish the rest of the plastic stuff in my truck. So I polished the clear thingy, my headunit faceplate, the clock, and the fake wood Well, I showed my roommate my gauges and said "I just cleaned it" and his response was "woah, damn. You can totally tell."

Maybe you guys can try that route instead. The two bottles of the stuff were kinda expensive though, about $5 each, but it's worth a try, rather than spending $20 on a new one

I believe they are called a gauge bezel. If you get any cleaner or Armor All on them they go "milky". The same holds true for some of the older clocks. You will probley have to replace it. :cry: I have replaced one before and it's not hard.
