with a "special" tool called a pitnam arm puller. or alternativly a 3 jaw puller, but most mechanics swear by the SST as more than one have told me they have broke normal 2/3 jaw pullers trying to take them off.

the major autoparts places have them for rent/sale.

True that.

Schaefer broke his puller trying to get the pitman arm off my Fj62 box last week. Sorry, Steve....

slap the pitman arm puller on there, spray down the thing in PB blaster and tighten the pitman arm puller. When it gets tight, start whackin' the pitman arm with a hammer. You don't have to hit down on it, just whack it by the splines. ah-ha, now you can tighten the puller a little more. pound some more, tighten some more. pound more, tighten and BANG the thing will slip right off.
