In the coming months, I'll be getting a new set of 305/70 16 Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ's. With my OME front lift setup, there's no way the tires will clear the upper A arm. New wheels aren't in the budget and I really like the stock 5 stars anyway, so my only real option is spacers.

I'm having a hard time choosing which width to go with and am looking for 3rd gen pics with spacers to compare. I'm leaning heavily to the 1.5" spacers, but am also considering 2" and 1.25" spacers as well. So, post up pics of your rig with spacers and also which brand you went with and your experiences with them in general. Thanks!

 

I wouldn't want to go over 1.5". The more recent pictures in my profile are with wabfab 1.25" in the front only, no spacers in rear. this should give you an idea

 

I took a few measurements last night and was thinking 1.5" would be max, but the 2" spacers look tempting too. I'm thinking the tires might stick out too far with the wider spacers though. Thanks for the pic!

 

I don't know if the 2" spacers will stick them out past your flares. I have the same flares and i'm running 17x9" wheels with stock back spacing and they are flush with the fenders. Those 305's might make it .5-1" past the flair maybe...

 

I am running 285/75/16 MTR's on the stock 3 spoke wheels with the Limited flares, they do sit too far in for my liking. I needed to run 1/4" spacers to clear the control arms. The 1.25"s should work great. Remember spacers add extra leverage to the wheel bearings and suspension parts, so the smaller the better.

 

To update this thread, I found a set of 1.5" spacers for a very reasonable price and decided to order them. I'll post up before and after pics for reference in the coming days.

 

Wheels spacers are fine, but the stud's that you bolt on too aren't very long and the 1.5inch spacer eats up a fair amount of lug nut space. When I had larger rims on my 4Runner I was getting only 4 rotations with the lug's! Just make sure to periodically check them to make sure they are tight enough.

The spacers I picked up are the type that have a second set of lugs built in, so they'll be fine in that regard. The kind you're thinking of are the "gasket" spacers without lugs.

 

this is a common misconception on these boards

spacers fit over your lugs and render the threads they cover useless

adapters are secured to your existing lugs and have studs built in that fix the lack of threading caused by spacers

i bought the 2 inch wheel spacers for my 96 4runner and ended up selling them to some guy here in town... i went with the 1.25 inch spacers. they fit nicely and my tires didn't rub in the front like with the 2" ones, AND don't stick out ridiculous in the rear. hope this helps!

 

That's good to hear. I just about pulled the trigger on the 2" spacers. They were the same price as the 1.5 inchers I ended up getting. I'm figuring that they'll give me plenty of clearance and still not have the tires stick out too far. They're going on tonight, so we'll see!

 

haz anyone put spacerz on a stock suspension 3rd gen? i would imagine it givez it a beefier look.

I had spacers on for a day with the stock suspension and took them off immediatly because i was rubbing in the front pretty bad. I also had 265/75/16 tires on too so i'm not sure if stock tires rub or not. It did make a subtle difference though and i would have kept them on if it didn't sound like i had baseball cards flapping in a bicycle wheel.

I'm running 305/70-16 M/Ts on the stock rims with a 2 1/2" suspension lift and I had 1" wheel spacers all around. I had to take the rear spacers off because my fender flares were sitting on the last 1.25" of my tire preventing the tire from being stuffed. Even with the rear spacers off, I still can't fully stuff the rear tires but the rubbing is a little less. Keep in mind my truck is an SR5 w/ smaller flares than the Limited flares even.

As far as the front tires, even with the 1" spacers, I still rub the frame when turning just a little bit with the 305s. Next time around I will definitely be going with 285s w/ 1" spacers in the front and no spacers in the rear. That should finally eliminate all my rubbing. I don't mind or even really notice the 2" difference in track from front to rear.

Another thing to consider... the stock 7" rims aren't the best to mount a 12" tire on. I haven't had problems with mine, but it isn't recommended. That's another reason why I want to go to 285s. Even the 285s are recommended for 7.5" rims but that's close enough for me.
