I have a quick question for those who have PP 1" lift coil springs installed.

I had mine for just over a month and within last week the rear springs started to develop a clicking noise every time I go over a bump or pull out of my driveway. I had a local shop install all 4 coils for me, so I might not be exactly sure about particular details of the install.

Before I take my 4Runner back to them, is clicking in the rear even normal with PP springs? What about passenger/driver side springs, is there a difference? Also, should they check anything in particular?

this wont help you out much, but i do know that they SHOULD NOT click

 

I have never had a problem with it clicking.
I would take it back, maybe they forgot to tighten something!!

 

Check the rear panhard bar. Make sure the bolts are tight on either end, and the driver's side bolt has been inserted from the front to the back, and not the other way around. The nut should be towards the front of the vehicle.

Mine are 2G in the rear, but no clicking. I've heard that they will squeek if some plastic piece is left out of the coil bucket - not sure if this applies to your situation, but I thought I'd toss it out there...

 

No clicking here after almost a year.

Check your shocks too and make sure everything is tight.

 

Loose upper shock mounts (nuts loose on shock mount stud). The mount bushings on the shock stud should bulge ever so slightly. 14mm deep wall socket, small hands and patience...

I wrote several long dissertations on PP springs and the noises they make with air bags and Billies. Dependent on the situation and the set up, they are either the best spring you have ever used or they totally suck. My experience was the latter.

Thanks, that was it! Looks like that panhard bolt became very loose, and that's exactly was causing the clicking noise. Tightening the nut solved the problem!

But next time I'll be installing all my upgrades myself. It might take longer, but it will be a very good learning experience and I'm pretty sure with everyone here at Yotatech I'll never get lost.

I've never worked on a car in my entire life until I bought my 4runner and started reading up on everything here at Yotatech. Everyone on this board have been such a huge help to me, so right now I'm working on doing multiple writeups and threads of my current modifications so I can hopefully be as much help as all these other guys and gals have been to me.

I'm glad it worked out for you, because I experienced the same thing after I reversed the bolt on the driver's side of mine, not really thinking about it. After putting it back in the correct direction, it was gone.
