Paint Chipping

Does anyone have any tips for me? I recently smoked my tail lights with testors black tint, and i also did the poor mans black pearl emblem mod with testors paint, i did plenty of coats and did a couple of clear coats and now the paint is starting to chip away, is it just not possible to do these mods in florida because of the sun or am i doing something wrong?

is it the clear or the color that is chipping? Did you sand them any before you painted?

I painted my symbol on my tacoma and the same thing happened to me, I tried to paint it black over the chrome. The thing with sanding is, you dont need to sand off all the paint/cheap chrome, or whatever you are trying to paint over, but just make it smooth and sand it a little bit. I wont try to go into too much, but when you sand something, it creates a static bond that helps the paint adhere better(correct me if im wrong), and if you dont do this, then the paint will crack off over time which is what it apparently did. I would just get a 120 grit sand paper and use that to sand down the old coat of paint to help strip it down and then also use the 120 grit to actually sand down the base of what you are trying to paint, then I would go buy some 320 grit sand paper to smooth out the scratches, then primer the piece, then paint. Hope this helps.
