It's not done man, come on, just testing stuff. The LED's all have a different brightness, therefore some tweaking will be done to make them almost match, then put in a acrylic mount.

I know it may be a little too late, but why use LED's? I think a 7 segment display would have worked nice, and taken up less room.

 

The idea came up about using one, but just didn't get around to fiddling with it. But hey, I get to see four different pretty colors instead of just one color like alarm clock red all the time.

There is room for added featured/upgrades/improvements and you could incorporate all kinds of cool stuff, but still comes down to I just want it to shift gears to begin with.

 

Along these lines why not use one of those multi-colored LED's? They have LED's that can have 7 colors in 1. Would make the LED fitment/install easier.

 

There is lots of ways to do it for sure. Guess I just like the idea of a small light bar across the top of the column that moves left and right and changes colors. That's one of the fun factors in this project is that it's custom made however I want it. Hell, maybe I will make it honk the horn every time I shift.

And it is a perfectly fine way to do it. Just a bit harder.

In my MR2 I installed my knock sensor light bar across the top plastic trim piece above the cluster. The LED's stuck though it a little bit and are unnoticeable until they light up. Nice out of the way yet easy to install and see place. I love it personally. I wish I had got a video of it when it was working.

 

Who doesn't like a challenge, the easy way out isn't any fun.

 

Chip is programmed to test the logic, it works! Cycles through all 4 positions, if in 1st and down shift again does't go to 4th and if in 4th and up shift doesn't go to 1st, if both buttons are hit simultaneously it doesnt change positions, LED's progressively follow gear position, stuff like that.

 

how did you debounce the buttons?

 

Debouncing the buttons in software. Inputs are watched to make sure it appears stable for 50 milliseconds before accepting it as "the truth."

I have been thinking of building up a lighting kit for the tach, that will progressively change from green to red the higher you rev the engine. You will need the controller for the RGB LED's and an analog input.

 

Wow, this is cool. I am actually doing nearly the same thing for my truck. I have a 88 pickup with a tbi 4.3 and a 4l60e in it. I have been using arduino to make paddle shifters for my pickup, lol. The gm 4l60es are actually controlled nearly the same way as the A340s. Just different solenoids at different times. Let me know if you need any help, I might just be able to answer some of your questions.
