1985 Toyota 2 Wheel Drive 22R

I want to replace my o2 sensor... however, I don't know who to go through... I need to keep it cheap, but will buy factory replacements if I have to.... From what I have heard, some simply splice into the factory wiring.. I wnat to avoid this, I want a completely bolt the sensor in, and snap it into the Toyota connector underneath my hood....

Where can I get these? Napa? Kragens? Is any brand superior to the otehrs? Toyota? Bosch? Ohters?

 

I have used the factory sensor and had good luck with it.
I have also used the Bosch sensors and had very poor performance.
After using a couple of bosch sensors i have gone back to the factory one. It does cost a bit more but in my opinion its worth it.

 

Well, honestly (and I come from the rice world too) I've never heard of aftermarket O2 sensors... especially ones that are supposed to give you power... there are much easier ways around that. Yeah, just search and find a place online that is supposed to give you "Discount Toyota Parts!!!" or some crap like that and just get an OEM O2 sensor. Go with what you know what works... it's a lot of money and trouble to waste so go with OEM.

 

I've had a BORSH O2 for over 10 years in my 85 22re and it's been fine(had to splice it though).I think it cost me 30 somethinig bucks back then.

 

i dont care if it gives me increased performance or not... i jsut wnat to replace mine as its looking beat up.... i wnat it to be fully clip into the harness though... i dont wnat to have to cut/splice things to get htem to work...

 

Any of the parts stores will have replacement O2 sensors for your engine. The sensor plugs into the existing harness about 6" up. Replacement sensors come with that clip, or without. Price difference of about $10. If you buy the cheaper one without the clip connector, you simply snip the old one off your existing O2 sensor, and attach it to the new one. Then you plug into the harness.

I am another who has been less than impressed with Bosch items over the years. I would consider a Bosch O2 sensor, but would be ready to find it a poor replacement.

 

I checked around here on O2's and Advance Auto wanted $170 for a Bosch sensor, so they're not going to be cheap. I've also heard that sometime that any O2's other than OEM can hurt the performance of your engine or cause to just not run right. I've heard this on more than one occasion. A guy working in a parts store one time told me that I could take the sensor off and soak the tip in carburetor cleaner to get the carbon off of it. Now I don't know how true this is and haven't tried it, so don't quote me on it.

My advice is to go with the OEM.

Who on earth did you talk to? The Bosch sensor lists for $37.88, complete with the oem connector. $29.98 if you skip the oem connector and just butt splice it in yourself. Their most expensive O2 sensor for that truck is $63.99 for the Beck Arnley one.

so i have beck arnley, ND, and bosch as the main manufacturers of aftermarket stuff

i know from the car industry that bosch supples oem to several manufacturers... are the toyota ones actually made by toyota? or are they subcontracted out to some other company, if yes, then who?

 

Beck Arnley isn't a manufacturer. They are simply a vendor who has their name printed on the box.

 

who makes them? i am familiar with brake pads.. the ones kragens carries are beck and raybestos.. i hate all btu the raybestos quiet stops... but the becks are good.... so who actually makes beck arnley?

 

also was reading on another site about echlin 02 sensors? this was a ford site, so i dont know if they even have this brand for the toyota... they are available at napa? or something like that or are napa's line?

 

also along that line... napa carries their preferred brand of stuff.... allied has everything but their main brand is acdelco.... like kragens is bosch..... things like that... who is better?

 

Who ever B/A happens to buy from at a given moment. It varies with product and time. I do not know who they buy O2 sensors from. Same with things like the Kragen house brand you mention. It all depends on who they happen to be buying from, who's bought out who, what contracts exist, etc.

 

I was looking for NGK plugs online and saw that NGK also makes o2 sensors.

 

Stick to factory replacment. As for O2 sensors. I put so many aftermarket ones in varous cars and trucks and they all suck. Once I went back to the factory ones the vehicle runs great again. I say stick to stock and suck down the cost. You will end up using a factory replacement one anyway.
