Outer oil seal wierdness
So I dropped off my half shafts at the machine shop along with the outer oil seals, the new ABS rings and the bearings. The guy from the shop calls me and says the outer seal doesn't fit. Its too small.
So I drop by Toyota and confirm the ones I bought were for a 96 4runner limited. Go to Oreilley and check the seal against the one they have, try every seal from Tacomas and 4runners from 96 - 00. They are all the same. So I talk to the service guy at Toyota and he says he has never heard of this. We talk about it for awhile and he gives me the part numbers for the outer seals on a Tundra.
I take these over to the machine shop and voila. The inner seals, bearings, abs rings, brake shoes, everything else that I replaced were sourced against a 96 4runner. This one seal is different.
I'm going to update this post with the part numbers for the seals that worked for me in case anybody else runs into this.
