Here is my situation. When installing my OME front coil over setup. The top Poly Cushion was missing. I installed the new poly one under the upper spring seat locator as recommended, then I just temporarily replaced the upper poly cushion with the stock rubber one. Well, ARB was grand in sending me a new set. What I want to do is replace the top rubber bushing with the new poly one.
Here is my question. Can I leave the pack installed on the truck and after removing the wheel, lifting that side A-arm to compress the pack, just remove the top center nut and retaining washer to replace the top cushion with the poly one? This would seem to work unless there is something I am not understanding or foreseeing.
Please advise…

I think if you remove the center retaining nut without using a spring compressor, it will pretty much explode on you.

EDIT: just re-read and saw that you wanted to leave this on the truck, keeping it secured by the 3 mounting plate bolts. I'm not sure I'd want to risk it, but wait and see what others think about it, I may just be too paranoid.

 

It would be about 1000% easier if I could use the truck's weight as the spring compressor and not have to dis-assemble everything just to get to the top poly bushing.... Perhaps I am mad!!!

 

Yes it would work as long as you have room to get the nut on and off and can get the proper torque back on the nut...you don't want that thing coming loose again. But the answer to your question is yes, if you have room.

 

While it might work that way, I would be toooooooo parnoid to risk it that way and just do it the PROPER and RIGHT way.

It will not explode, try it, it won't move cause there is a stud already in there. I will go check on mine to be sure.
Also it will not explode if you take apart the coilpack w/o a compressor, it will simple come apart with some force.

 

no problem at all, I just went outside and took mine off with a 19mm socket in a couple of seconds, real easy.

 

Go for it man, it'll work fine. I second Hyperlite, I tried it too. It'll be a cinch.

Yup.
Did it this evening without a hitch. I had the top bushing changed in around the time it would have taken me to take the wheel off the truck. With the space above the tire, because of the lift, I was able to work with the truck on the ground. The hardest part was removing the old, soft, rubber bushing. I decided to cut it off since I had such a tough time grabbing it to pull it over the stud.
