Not to Hijack.... But,
I don't think the "pressure plug" of having the exhaust submerged can overcome the exhaust gas pressure, can it?
Is there any danger in getting in deeper than the exhaust?

ARB has not ever given me a reason not to belive them. The thing is though, you can't dyno test ram air so I guss there will always be a disagreement between the skeptical and those that understand physics/aerodynamics. No hard feelings, just gotta go with what I know.
Even if this were true, the air being "rammed" in would go out the same holes the water does. Take a close look at the picture above. Trust me, any extra ram air power that might be made isn't even enough to over come the extra drag created by the snorkel tube itself. You are dreaming. The only people that I have heard talk about this ram air effect are all people that don't own snorkels.

They have their cold air intake kits that breathe from the lower scoop. Sucking the air from outside. Snorkels seem to have the same idea but the difference being they suck from above the rig for the purpose of not getting water. Are they the same in a way?

Make sure your woman knows what it's gonna look like, and that EVERYONE will give you the "what the hell is that" look.
My girl hates the snorkel, but she isn't really into offroading, and she is superficial! :pig:

Anyone have a part number for the tacoma pipe? and where to get it cheap? thanks

Gotta agree with Dave, I can't buy the ram-air idea at all. In order for it to be a true ram-air system, wouldn't the snorkel have to connect directly to the carb (or throttle body in this case)? A snorkel simply moves the air opening up above the fender, right? It still connects to the air box, so air goes through the filter? Seems just as restrictive as a stock setup. If anything I'd think that the deckplate mod would be more "ram-air"-like than a snorkel.

Yeah I don't know about the whole ram air thing. I ordered a snorkel last weekend, and now I just need the part number for the taco piece to make this work. So instead of starting a new thread I thought someone who has done it already could just post the part number on here too.

If you want it cheep then go to a junk yard, if not got to the guy at the stealership and ask him to look up an air intake part for a 3.4L Taco. He will pull up a diagram of the parts in the intake. There will be a airbox with an 90 degree elbow. Attached to that is a pipe that runs above the passenger wheel, this is what you need to buy.

Hey, I was just checkin in, figured from your pm that a snorkle post had to be up close to the top.. I notice you have a 3rd gen truck... Once you get in your kit (or if someone else knows.) Make sure you need my hole saw size.. Mine is a 83mm or 3-1/4" 44Runner may know, but I do know this is the right size on the 2nd gen truck though..

ok I got the tacome intake extension today. But how does it go on? I see the air box connecting to the round hole in the fender wall. and I'm guessing there is a 90 degree bend back there where I would then attach the taco pipe to. But how do you get behind the fender to access the open end of the 90 degree angle piece?

I hope I'm making sense. thanks guys

Do u actually plan on cutting the hole urself? Cuz if u make a mistake, the error could be permanent.

It's not "could be" permanent. "It is" permanent. But yeah if I can cut people open, the truck shouldn't be that much harder. But don't worry I've got a few TTORA guys coming over next saterday to help me out. Were going to do another taco as well.

Just a question, who the hell else would he have cut the hole?

Short of mental retardation, anyone can do this mod and it should take no longer than an hour. They provide a nice little stencil so you won't mess up and if you do, well, you connect the dots.

sdastg1, you got the right idea man. Just pull out the black fender lining to get in there.

Lee, if memory serves I am 99.9% sure that is the same size I used.

Dave

Thaks Dave

I looked both here and 4x4 wire, the correct part number wasn't posted anywhere. I went to the dealer and thanks to the nice diagram that was posted here I was able to point out the part on the screen. I'll post the correct part number on here for the next time some needs to do this tomorrow.

Also where do I go to get the 02 sensor safe sealant. Advanced auto, home depot, NAPA?

thanks
