I'm wanting to install an engine oil and trans oil temp gauges. I was wondering if anyone has done this? I mainly need info. about how and where to install the sender units.

I have a 2001 Tacoma V6 with auto trans.

I'm mounting the two gauges in the Lo-tek A-pillar pod unit.

If I need to I will install both a remote engine and trans filter for a good sender port. I'm not worried about leaks in the lines, but since I use my truck in the backcountry I worry about damage (leaks) to the filters. If anyone has info, or the Pro's & Con's to remote filters, I'd like to hear about it.

PS This is my first post here, and I did a search, but didn't come up with this info.

 

I have a tranny temp and oil pressure gauge so this should work for you.

For the oil temp if you look just to left of the oil filter there is a little hex plug in the block, there is also the stock oil pressure sender directly above it. You can remove that and then install your sender in that port using an adapter (I bought a brass adapter from NAPA).

For the tranny temp I tapped into the line going to the transmission cooler, make sure you use the line before the cooler so you get a true reading. What I did was go to NAPA and buy a brass T fitting. Then I bought two nipples that fit the transmission hose and screwed into the T fitting. Last I used an adapter to screw the the sender into the T.

Let me digest this for a while and see how it works out for me. The engine looks like a slam-dunk. I also adding a engine oil pressure switch to a buzzer, so thanks for adding that info too.

I stopped by Toyota last night at see about buying new trans fittings and modify those, but at $30 each, I may just tap the hose as you did.

Love the ground tip. I'm sure you saved me some time there.
