Question Oil level between changes..

I'm just curious, but I assume it's not so normal for the oil level on the dipstick to go down some by the end of the 3000 miles between oil changes..? Does anyones here go down some, if so how much? Mine is near the bottom of the cross hatched section, but it's due for a change too.. (probably tomorrow). I just wondered, since I just put about 1000 miles on it this weekend.. (mostly 70mph and up).
Thanks a lot,
-Bryan

Mine goes down from the top of the hashed section to the middle of it (approximately), but that was when I had a slight oil leak. I have run a couple of bottles of Bearin' Seal through it and hopefully that has helped some. However, I don't think I am burning any...just a slight leak.

That still seems unreasonable to me. Just doesn't seem right.

Well, I know the manual says it's normal for it to consume some, and mines been worked hard this last 3000 miles, so I'm not gonna worry (i see no leaks, and pretty sure it doesnt burn it).. hmm is there anyw way I can check and see if tis burning oil?

Don't know much about your engine, but I know that in 5,000 miles I don't lose ANY oil. And I run a lightweight (mobil 1 5-30) and have done so for the entire life of the car.....Perhaps that's why?....Just my $.02.

Check your plugs. You can tell if your burning oil from them.

My oil level seems to drop a little when I drive it hard(pull trailer, climb mountain passes, etc) Must be burning a little off under the high rpms and load I guess. Otherwise it seems to stay at the full line between changes. An indication of burning oil might be slighty dark/black exhaust or if your tailpipe is black could also indicate burning oil.

I usually have to add anywhere from 1/2 quart to a full quart at the 2,000 mile mark. I don't have any leaks either. Just burns it I'm assuming. I'm not to worried though, 140,000+ miles, 8 years old, who cares if the only maintenance you have is adding oil every 2000 miles.
