Oil Leakage >P ???

ok, i have a 91 3.0 with 150k on it. I wake up yesterday morning to find a nice puddle of oil below my yota! well, not a BIG puddle or nething but theres some oil on the pavement, enuf to cause concern. i check the oil level, and its LOW, so i dump some in.

I crawl under the truck to inspect a bit, and i find that theres OIL EVERYWHERE! the bottom of the oil pan is wet, Steering stabilizer, drop bracket, the front drive shaft, and the tranny. im assumming the tranny and shaft got wet coz of when i was driving, the oil just flew backwards.

but everything in that vicinity is wet. i didnt do that before the New years weekend. i went to the desert that weekend, but did no 4x4ing , went dirt biking. it was HELLA cold out there, could that have nething to do with it?

i started the motor and sat under the truck lookin for leaks. theres drops and most of the wetness is concentrated right by the oil filter. i checked by hand to see if the filter was loose. it wasnt, atleast from what i could tell. the oil pan? drips were coming from the bolts. are there any oil lines there that could go bad and just leak.

its just a mess down there, imma have to pressure wash it and look for leaks.

any ideas?

thanks

My 0.02

I'd try cleaning off the engine, doing an oil change with changing the filter, crank the puppy up and watch for oil leakage. If it is not the filter, you got some wrench turning to do my friend...

I had to tighten my diver's side valve cover bolts the other day because they were a little loose and seeping oil really slowly....may be worth a try.

ive heard some people say to watch the oil filter gasket when you change the oil.....

sometimes the old seal stays stuck on the engine and you might not notice............then you put on a new oil filter and get a massive leak from double seals that aren't suppose to be there.

If it's not the filter check the oil cooler just behind the filter. A 4" round thing with 1 small hose going to the block from it. My 93 3.0L was leaking from there. There's an o-ring on the cooler where it attaches to the block that gets brittle and leaks. Good news is the o-ring is cheap, bad news is it's not much fun to get at.

I have the same exact thing happening to my 3.0 2nd gen. I can see oil on some bolts and everythign is covered with it. When I leave the car sitting over night, I came to find 3 spots of oil on the ground under my runner. Filled up and is still leaking. I crawled under the runner to see what was going on b ut couldnt fiund the leak. How do you get to the oil filter?
