Have any of you done this with Royal Purple or Amsoil? It seem the max change interval for Red Line is 7500 miles.

Bottom line, they ran Mobile 1 for 18,000 miles (not a misprint).

 

so everything but the viscosity are within spec. how does regular motor oil compare to those values? I use High Mileage Castrol, thinking about getting it tested for the heck of it.

But I think them adding 6.5 quarts during the testing helped. I don't think there numbers could be to accurate either considering that the test procedure states " collect engine oil from the middle of the drainage." I would like to see someone do strait 7500 miles on mobile 1, then test, with no additions of oil.

 

Well if you consider the 6 1/2 quarts added - they changed the oil twice(approx) in 18000 miles...thats 9K intervals with no adding - anyway the test was damn ballsy-espically for the guy who owns the Chevy- with unexpected results....doubled my change intervals to 5K!

 

I think there is someone on yotatech that did 25,000 with amsoil.

 

I know several guys who run 10k to 20k on regular oil their theory behind it is once a year is good enough

 

That's brutal. Thier 'yotas should be taken away from them by 'yota services for " 'yota abuse."

by "High Mileage" I am referring to the Castrol oil that is for vehicles with more than 75k on them. Not for driving alot of miles between oil changes, . I change mine every 4-5k.

 

Here's a 10K run with Mobil 1 5W-30. I think your wear numbers look "ok." Note how low your iron is compared to mine. The oil is probably gone though IMO which may be why it got a little thin. When the TBN gets below 2 it's time to change. Redline isn't known for being an extended drain oil.

I have one more run with "doctored" M1 off for analysis. I have German Castrol Syntec 0W-30 in my truck now...

If you are going to push the oil past 7500 you really should have a bypass filter installed.

 

I stopped by the Stealer to check on my Knocking prob (I think I stumped the masses) and I was telling the rep about my 5K Mobil 1 intervals...he did mention something interesting-IF any gas was to bypass the rings it dosent 'mix' with the synthetic as it would with dino..therefore it can play havoc with your bearings....

gonna get a analisis on mine and see what condition the internals are in. :chicken:

 

It's their choice to go lease a Toyota or whatever for 24 months and never change the oil, Toyota don't care what the internals look like long as the body looks like new

 

You want high mileage, my fathers friend bought a Porsche 911 drove 44,000 miles and traded it in with the original oil wish I was their when the tech checked it but it looked mint so they said good enough

 

damn... the industry really IS brutal.. that's why I always advise doing an oil analysis before purchasing a used vehicle.

And yah, a lease is just like a rental... so true; u can do whatever you want to is; as long as it looks good, everything is okay. Good point!

 

yes, but I am talking about what the odometer reads, not how long I go between oil changes. Castrol has an oil that "supposedly" is designed to be run in engines that have over 75k on them. The oil still needs to be changed at regular 4-5k intervals though. I would never go longer than that, I don't care if it is someone elses car, I have a habit of "proper" maintenance and I just don't think going much over 5k no matter what oil your using is proper maintenance. Oil, even synthetic is not that costly when compared to the alternative so I would rather go ahead and change the oil than risk tearing the engine up or shortening it's life.

I agree with you if you are not going to get your oil analyzed. There are other safe ways to run long intervals.

 

Don't know if I've seen one with Amsoil in the 3.4L. Go here and do a search in the Used Oil Anaylsys Forum -
