Octane???

I have a 04 Tacoma..Using low grade gas I am getting 16-17 around town and mixed hwy and town getting 18, and just hwy I got 22.23..I put 87 octane in it the other day and I got 19.6 around town witha lil hwy use..Has anyone tried/tested theirs using different octane? With gas being $3.09 at the beginning of summer I need to do all I can to get the best bang for my buck on gas..So please post up if you have...Thanks

Discussed many times. Many, including myself, will use the grade recommended grade specified in the manual. I have tried reg/blend/premium and have noticed no difference in MPG. I just stick to regular.

Let's hope the price stabilizes over the next five weeks, making this statement true.

in my truck, I got about 19 when using regular unleaded, stepped it up to the midgrade stuff and i'm getting 21.5 pretty consistantly. I did try the premium and it went up to 22-ish, but for the difference in price the step to premium isnt worth it.

Im told that most of my gas mileage is because of the altitude over sea level, and the 5 speed. but I did see an increase in mileage when changing to higher octane.

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/autos/octane.shtmHigher octane=less volatility. Used on higer performance engines to reduce spark knocking.
