NW4Runner is DONE - Motor Pics

After 12 months, NW4Runner is now back in my garage in Chicago. After some early morning fun (before the traffic started) I can say this is the fastest vehicle I have ever driven (yes vehicle, not 4Runner). My friend's Hennessey Viper will smoke it, but the bastard's never let me drive

This project has been a long time coming and would not have happened if not for the persistance of Brian Trager (in finding someone crazy enough to attempt our projects) and Jason Cobb of F2uning - for not only being crazy, but building the nicest 5VZ I have ever laid my eyes on or driven.

If you want to see it all, check the site:

Dyno & 1/4 mile times

I just got it back late last night (the truck rolled up at 9PM). My first real drive was this morning about 6AM so I'm still whirling a bit for my excitement.

I'm trying to get it in for dyno testing this week, but it's already hitting freezing here in Chicago so the 1/4 mile times may have to wait until spring. Probably not a bad idea to give the motor a few grand more before the stress anyway. Right now it has 700 miles on post build, with that initial break-in and tuning all done by F2uning.

So is my wife. We have a don't ask, don't tell policy when it comes to my truck.

Anyone could call F2uning in Idaho and get a quote - but I warn all, this is not for the faint of heart or wallet, and there are times I look back and feel like

WOW!! That's impressive. If I may ask, why did you run a supercharger instead of turbo application? I'm not saying one is better than the other (hey i just like turbo's okay), but I was wondering if a turbo was even a viable option. Congratulations, that rig is super nice. I can't get over seeing a FMIC in the front of a 4runner's grille.

I went with the S/C mostly to have a broad torque band that went way low into the RPMs. I wanted something that could be a daily driver, a nice sleeper for when you want it.

It is also way easier to plumb, as the S/C does not require custom exhaust manifolds.

There are two twin-turbo 5VZ motors out there, both were a ton of work. f2uning (who did mine) did one of them, they have some pics on their site.

I thought that place was in Idaho. It's actually only a couple miles down the road from where I'm at. Might have to go and check them out sometime.

That makes me want to cry, wet my pants and pass out all at the same time. You've certainly come a long way since you and I first talked back on 4x4Wire. Congrats on a finished project and I thank you for providing me with hours of reading material and eye candy on your site! Great job.

Holy Crapolie. Whenever you get ready to sell, let me know.

I'm sure the main question on all of our minds is... how much did all that run you?
