Noise from front passenger wheel assembly when turning around in a driveway
Anybody have any ideas on this one…?
My 2004 4Runner makes an unusual noise when encountering the following situation. I live on a small 2 lane city street. I often have to do a three point turn in a driveway in order to get to a parking spot, etc. The driveway is a standard inclined driveway, nothing severe. Oftentimes when I do this there is a low frequency rubbing noise sort of like a groan from the front passenger wheel. The duration of the noise is only about one half of a second at a maximum. If you do a normal left turn without the extra force of going up that inclined driveway, no noise. It seems as if that additional force created pushing the bottom of the wheel because of turning on the incline helps make this noise. I was just told by the dealership that they couldn’t find anything. That makes sense because it is hard enough to describe as is. Please let me know if you have any ideas. I attached a graphic to help explain......
Thanks.

Lube steering stop - stopped noise from wheel assembly
Just as an FYI - The dealer lubed the steering stops and the noise from the front wheel assembly has stopped when turning around......

Yeah I was about to say, those steering stops don't say quiet for long. I know for 2nd gens you can get plastic covers to go over them, so they're quiet until the plastic wears down.
