no spark, need help

just picked up a 84 truck with only 100xxx on it but it wont run. it is getting fule but no spark. i pulled the coil wire off of the distrubuter and held it on a ground and tried cranking it but nothing.

where should i go from here?

It sounds like it's the coil, ignitor or the pickup coil in the distributor. To check the pickup coil, disconnect the green plug leading to the distributor and ohm it out. It should read between 140-180 ohms. The ignitor gets kind of complicated to test but try this out first.

That and the ignitor is like a millon and half dollers.

check the distributer cap and rotor while your at it.

if the distributor is ok, i say its the igniter... mine went out, and all was missing was spark.... we tested the distributor and coil and they were ok.... so we knew it had to be the igniter... which sucks because they are $300 new!

coils can be a problem, anywhere between $10 and $50 depending on the coil you want.

ok tested the pickup coil and it is good, so giess i will just have to buy a coil might as well anyway.

it all good cuz i got the truck for free anyway
