Ah..
I guess I am just getting tired...

To point though
All Toyotas are tough...
In that they are designed to keep the passenger safe at the cost of the car itself...
The car can always be fixed or replaced, but the bodies inside cannot be replaced...
I am sure that was Toyota's mentality when they were designeing the safty of teh vehicles...

If you want the truck back for parts, contact your insurance and tell them you wanna buy it back for what they totaled it out as. One thing is for certain unless you spell out your goodies you dont get that back if you crash it and they have the vehicle listed as stock.

I would buy it back, its repairable..

Wow... I'm happy to hear your family is ok.

I saw a 4runner with a bullbar rear end an Accord. The 4runner looked surprisingly fine, the Accord's trunk was completely smashed. The damage to the jeep must have been extensive. I hope that guy is ok as well... for his, and your wife's sake, (suit could be expensive depending on your insurance coverage).

glad to see they are ok I posted some pics a few months of a friends crash with a power pole at 98 miles per hour.
the motor compartments take most of the impact leaving the cab in good condition if the front had not smashed then the injuries would have been a lot worse.

How much did you get from the insurance?

Was she ruled at fault?

Insurance gave me 8K back. I feel it was worth a lot more, of course that's me. I took very very good care of it. Even the insurance guy who inspected it commented on how well the truck was kept.

My wife was at fault, she got a ticket and points on her record.

I'll look into how much it would cost to buy back the truck...if it's worth it I might just do it.

Sucks that I just put PIAA fog lights on it and the insurance company didn't give me anything back for them. :-(

I hope you haven't settled with the insurance company. Find "like" vehicles in similar condition and with similar mileage online and prove to them that $8K won't replace it. If you can provide receipts of money you've put into it, you should be able to get their offer raised.

Sorry for your loss, glad everyone was okay.

Well, most newer rigs have the crumple zones built in. A 4Runner stillused the fgull frame, but the Liberty tire was up enough to miss the frame. Otherwise, it might not have been nearly as bad. Cars are totaled much easier now. If the frame did get bent, usually replacement would total it. And most states dont allow any welding or heat on a frame.

Anyone know which year the 4Runner had air bags introduced on the driver's side? And then the passenger side?

It depends on the policy and coverage. They also base it on mileage and local blue book. I have full coverage on all my vehicles, and as long as I produce records concerning the aftermarket modifications I've done they will cover them.

I had to have another Subaru totalled, I got it for like 6500, The insurance company cut me a check for 8K.

Man, I'm glad everyone is OK. That is the most important thing here. We are only talking a Rig. That can be replaced, But a life, No way.

PS. If you do buy it back and part it out, I would like to have that roof rack. Please let me no. You can e-mail me @ kgut2@yahoo.com.

The best to you.

You can usually buy the salvage back for 25% of what they give you for it. I guarantee that it will bring much more than that at the salvage auction.
