Nice 2nd gen

Just got an email from Dandownunder a member here, and he sent me a link to a friend of his's website.

Pretty nice looking rig.
I have my eyes on that snorkel, always wanted one, and may end up putting one on some day.

WOW, did you see the pic of the Runner that looked like it had been flipped over. I'll bet it took all the kings men just to put him back together again. I would love to see what he was doing right before he incured the damage.

I too would like to hear the story on that roll. Anyone know what it is? It's gotta be a good one after seeing the pics of all 4 wheels off the ground and them awesome powerbrakes!!

That's a sweet looking rig! My Runner is the same color as that guy's current truck. I'm also wondering about that role. There was a '91 truck down by me that looked to be in a similar roll over. I was thinking about buying it for parts and the 4x4 system. It’s gone now though.

I don't mean to be nit picky, but aren't both those rigs a Hilux Surf instead of a 4Runner? It's got the white out corners, the turn signal on the fender, and those tail lights with the back up lamps in them instead of by the license plate. No big deal, but just wondering why the guy's web site says 4Runner.
Awesome set up though, regardless of what it is.

I too, think that snorkel is sweet. If I had a 4x4, that would probably be one of my first mods.

Well, have fun.

Rolling

Hey Guys, dandownunder here. He rolled the rig in a 4wheel drive park here in Australia. he was coming down a steep hill and had a bit too much gas, and hit a rock and just lost control, the next thing he knew it was rolling , 6 times, landed upright still running !!!! he drove it home like that.
if your interested my site is http://www.geocities.com/dandownunde...surf/index.htm
i designed his site, he has the 4runner i have the surf. let us know what you think.
cheers
Dan.

Are those fender flares stock on those trucks? They look much nicer with those and offer a lot of protection for the sides of the trucks with the wider wheel/tire combo. BTW - this is my first post here although I frequent trailtalk and have been lurking here for a few weeks.

Hey! Welcome to the forum! I could be wrong, but I believe those are Bushwacker flares on those trucks. I agree, they do look awesome.

I saw a post a bit ago where somebody posted a pic of their Hilux Surf (basically a 4Runner) with some awesome stock flares. Better than anything else I've seen on a 2nd gen. I'll try to find the post later.

Have fun.

You know, those may be factory flares. It's kinda hard to tell, but they look a bit like these:

Somebody posted that a bit ago, and those flares/mud flaps are soooo cool.

Have fun.

I really like those fender flares a lot. They give the 2nd gen a little of the look that the 3rd gens have here in the States but more importantly they won'e interfere with the installation of sliders.

I was thinking the same thing. I couldn't do that with my stock 3.4L. With my S/C I can now
