Newbie with a question

Hi all, I finally got the balls to post something here. Wouldn't you know it, its because I've got a problem. I've got a really simple problem to solve.

I recently noticed that the rear hatch dome light doesn't come on with the hatch open and the switch in the "door" position. I know the bulb is okay, because when I move the switch to the "on" position, the light turns on, unless there are two bulbs in there. Could it be my hatch's door switch is bad? Ok, here's the stupid question: Where is the door switch for the rear hatch? I can't find it.

Anyways, attached is a low quality picture of my ride.

Dang it, all I can offer is a "me too". Mine does the exact same thing. Haven't bothered to hunt it down yet. I have looked for the switch with zero luck as well.

Welcome Oscar! Good question. Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you; I just ran out to see if I could see a switch, but no luck.

Unhappy

Oscar,

Mine will not come on either. I have tried to trace the
problem, but so far I am still in the dark.

When you find the answer please post the solution.

Here's what I can tell you. I noticed that the "door open" dash light was on when I had the gate up. I compressed the locking mechanism (on the tailgate itself) with my finger and the light on the dash went out. I'm guessing same part controls the dome light.

Yep, Erc got it, the switch is in the tailgate itself. I just tried it too.

First thing, thanks to ERC for finding the light switch.

For those that are interested, I got my rear hatch light working again. My first guess was that the switch mechanism was jammed. So I sprayed some WD40 into the locking mechanism. The light turned on right away. The WD40 must have freed up the switch.

Thanks to all for their input.

OK I know this doesn't help you, but since we are on the subject. Mine does the exact opposite. It works with the hatch, but not with the switch only???Any clues?

I'm glad someone brought this up, mines been doing that but I just blamed it on a crappy body shop that did some work for me, and the problem just didn't start till after their year warranty was over. I am gonna try spraying some wd40 on the latch tomorrow.

I have the same problem. FSM shows a switch inside the back door, but I cannot seem to find it. The only thing I can think is that the switch is actually inside the door latch assembly. I took that out and there are two wires running to it, but I can't get to what is inside. I guess I can buy a new latch assembly. I want to get this fixed b/c when I use the keyless entry to unlock and open the rear hatch, the doors will all re lock unless I open one of the passenger doors. The RS3000 apparently doesn't realize the hatch is open. Post any solutions.

Thanks

That's very interesting, I have the very same problem with my Viper 550esp alarm - when the hatch is open, and I arm the alarm, the alarm will not recognize the fact that the hatch is indeed open. It's kind of a frustrating flaw - I just kind of assumed that it is a flaw. Sorry I don't have any advice to offer - I'm in the same boat as everyone else.
