Newbie here...Need some help.

Well I finally get to sell my mustang!!! But untill I can get rid of the POS I need to make this 4Runner make it from NC to VA My parents brought it from WVA to NC and it started smoking and overheating. Come to find out there is water in the oil...
We are hoping it's just a headgasket needing to be replaced and not a cracked head!!!

Has anyone replaced their own head gasket? Toyota told my dad it will take about 12 hours to do? I think I could do it no problems... Then again I work on a honda and there isn't anything to that motor so I might just be having some wishful thinking issues
BTW- It's a 1993 4Runner
Thanks
Nikki

Welcome to the forum Nikki.
Run that VIN # on your door by a Toyota dealer.

Many us with the 3.0 engines myself included have received a brand new engine free of charge.

The head gasket, more than likely the passenger side, goes out.
Toyota is obligated to fix it.

Look for past posts on the forum here about head gasket issues with the 3.0 engine.

Mine was so bad, they put in a new short block for the previous owner, so I essentualy got a brand new engine shortly before I bought my rig.

Let me be the first to welcome you Nikki. As for the head gasket, toyota should replace it for free and you may even get a new block out of the deal. Many on this forum have. A TSB was issued on to have the head gasket replaced on all 90-95 V6 4Runners. Ask the dealer if yours fall under this. Just give them your vin number. Hope this helps.

I can help with the second part at least...

Hi Nikki! Welcome to the board!

Unfortunately, I can already tell you're a hell of a lot better with a
wrench than me, so I can't help with the first part.

But there are some seriously grease-oriented folks here who
will be emerging from the woodwork any second now...

Hi Nikki, welcome to the forum. It sounds like everyone nailed it with the head gasket. Let us know how you make out at the dealer.

Hi Nikki,

Toyota replaced the Head Gasket on my 93 for free. Took them just 1 day. If they take more than a day they should get you a rental car.

Way ahead of you guys Called Toyota and they already said it's been replaced by them So it's either pay $1,000+ or take a shot at it myself =o/ But if it takes 12 screw that! heh but I don't see how it could be that bad.. just need a torque wrench.I think I have one but I donno I have to check..

And thanks My ex b/f had a 1992 toyota pickup I helped him work on..actually still tell him what to get for it lol. He babys it to death.. here is a picture of it ---> http://www.ladysstall.com/trkp.jpg
