I believe the downside of this is that the blowby or by products of the combustion process that make it past your piston rings are not being sucked out of the crankcase and reintroduced back into the intake for reburning. The net effect of this could be an increased buildup of the harmful chemmical components in your oil, which are responsible for the break down of the oil's lubricating properties. I know some of it is being pushed out of the new breather, and this is how it was done in the old days, however, I believe the PCV process is more effecient at evacuating the gasses and reducing the rate of introduciton into your oil. IMHO

The PCV mod is no longer recommended. What's the matter, you didnt want to read 5 pages of posts?
You are correct, with the PCV mod, I could smell gasses that did not go through the Cat. In other words, it stunk.

Yeah, me too. But I wouldn't expect a real nice looking dyno slip. I think the mods performed thus far have only bumped my HP + TQ in a very small RPM range - I am guessing somewhere between 3600 ~ 4600. Unlike a properly tuned SC'd 5VZ, which should show a nice linear HP increase once the parasitic drag of the SC'r is overcome.
Here is the order of power enhancements, in order of the largest gain IMO:
1. Headers
2. Gear ratio change (4.10 - 4.30)
3. Deckplate mod
4. Exhaust (hacked out stock muffler, welded in glasspack)
5. ISR mod
6. TB bore
7. Type O gasket mod
5 - 7 were not noticeable by the seat of my pants.

and.....
DONE!
There're a lot of mods on my truck, and I never expected to feel something this slight (and I don't), but knowing that lip is gone gives me a bit of a smile on my face.
What I did do to get more oomph during this pass under my hood was to... realize that my throttle cable had about 1/4" of slack in it. oops.
Thanks for the idea Christian!
