New injectors: Help needed ASAP!
#1
I am trying to install Toyota brown top 308cc injectors. These are midiwall's old injectors, so I know they will work on a 96. I tore the supercharger off and popped out my stock injectors from both the intake plenum and the fuel delivery rails; as expected, the OEM injector fit was nice and snug.
Here's my concern:
The brown tops are slightly shorter than the stock 5VZ injectors, which means the o-ring on the fuel delivery nozzle side doesn't go down in and lock into place in the intake plenum like the stock injectors did. (Stock injectors shown with no o-ring or compression ring in place).

They snap into place on the fuel delivery rail just fine, it's the plenum fitment that has me worried.

If you run aftermarket injectors or have experience, do you think this is something I should overlook? I mean, once the fuel delivery rails are bolted down, will there be enough downforce to keep the injectors safely in place?
TIA!

Yeah my URD injectors did the same thing, and I was concerned too. Gadget and everyone said it is normal to not fit tight at the bottom. I haven't started mine yet, so I'm just hoping it works.

OK, that makes me feel a little better. So far both you and Doug (blink) has said it is ok that they fit loose on the plenum side (from experience). It just seems so strange, ya know? I mean, it is pretty stinking loose when I test fit one. It's so different from the OEM injector fit...I feel like outside air is going to get in there - worse, fuel would leak out somehow

Yeah I know, mine just basicly sits in the hole, not tight at all like the stock injectors. I guess that big rubber doughnut thing seals it up good enough (make sure it looks like it's in good shape and clean). Are those Supra injectors?

Here's where I got some help over on CT: http://www.customtacos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52791

Just reuse the large base grommet from the old injector and it will be fine. When you tighten down the fuel rail they will snug right up.
You are removing funky air tip injectors and replacing them with none air tip injecors are they are going to fit differently, but work just fine.

I think they are. They are Mark's old injectors, so he might chime in and let you know for sure. I have the before and after flow test and they are all at a solid 308cc.
Wish me luck, I just got everything put back together, so now I am going to try and get it started and begin the tuning process.

After cranking over for a bit she fired up just fine. The idle was a bit low, so I adjusted the fuel trim to 3. After that adjustment, everything was great. I went out tuning with a clean "slate" and reset the maps to all 0's. I saw a definite improvement in performance over the stock injectors. I still had some ping in the ping zone (1600 - 2800) so I retarded some timing there, but not nearly as much as I had to do before (-10!). So, I am sitting around -6 in the ping zone, and at 0 everywhere else. So far so good. Power is smooth and linear.
Oh, and no fuel leaks!

Spoke too soon.
Threw a P0172 Bank 1 Too Rich. This happened after I added some fuel in the ping zone, so I think I am going to back that and the fuel trim off a bit. Had it cleared at Autozone, so I am now going to mess with the SMT. Hopefully it's not an 02 sensor. We'll see.
