If it really does look more "civilized" and soccer mom-ish it may even make the value on our older generations stay higher.

I agree...its nice but I cant believe thats a 4runner....even the font of the 4runner emblem is designed differently ...end of a great legacy if u ask me... oh well..i guess things had to change eventually

I like the rear end. Although it does not look 4Runner-ish.

Im glad the 2003 STILL has hatch w/ sliding window, its looks a bit sequoia-ized but still looks good (except the color is IFFY)

I can hear the screaming V8 now, only question is this doesnt quite resemble the lexus version, what its a toyota orginal???

Nice find Paul, do you have any more pictures????

I wouldn't be having any problem with it at all if it wasn't a 4RUNNER! If it was anything else at all, it'd be fine; not to my taste, but still fine. To me, 4Runners have always been lean and built for a purpose. I can't say that's what I'm seeing with this new one - at least, not yet.

Update:

I just spoke with Paul, and I'll have more pics up by 8 PM PST hopefully.
That was a V8 in the rig too

This rig was part of a 4WD magazine shoot.
Paul also has pics of a green SR5 model.

By the way, pics can be deceiving. The new rig is bigger than a 3rd gen.

I think it looks pretty cool. It looks like a Rav-4, Xterra, and Escape put together. I like it. I like the 3rd gens better, but I don't think that it is that bad! I like that it has a V8 too. But I am going to keep mine for now! LOL. :fireman:

Looks like a cross between the Highlander and Sequoia....

Nerf does not approve.

I don't know what to think. Looks sort of Highlanderish from the front, Back doesn't look to bad. Do you have any side view pictures? I noticed that there are no fender flares on it. It looks like they are going after the none off-road ( aka soccer mom ) group. I wait until I get to see it up close before I make my final decision.

The green one looks an awful lot like the styling of a...dare I say it...yes, I feel I must...'Trailblazer and Avalanche".

The green one at least seems more outdoor-ish than the blue one, but all in all, what's going on here? It's a conspiracy and an attempt to do away with all that is fun and off-road and turn it into a soccer-mom drivin', grocery bag carryin', plastic-panel reboundin', can't handle a trail-lookin' "prissy-mobile". I like it. Hah...not.

Seriously though, it's nice looking but not for me. When it's time for me to buy new and this is the trend I hope that Nissan saves a rugged outdoor-ish & supercharged Xterra model for me.

To me, from the side the, the flares dont flow with the rest of the car.. Kind of ugly.. The green/grey is the worst combo I have ever seen color wise, did Toyota loose there mind here?

What happend to the class/style the 4Runner had above the rest??

It looks to much like the sequioa, big fat and clumsy.... Can I say that???

What I want to see is a data sheet with the specs, with all the hip action it had least better to be able to outdo my 10-speed...

I'm praying to god that they don't to that to the Tacoma yet, I'm hoping that I'll be able to get one this coming year. Why the hell did they have to copy those ugly-ass Chevy wheel wells???

No problemo Paul.

Folk's, this is my out take on it.
If I was going to buy a new Toyota 4WD for 2003, it would be the Tacoma.
I'd put a Can-Back topper on it, and the ARB bumper up front, and mod the heck out of it.

I'd probably stick with the Extracab model also to have the bigger bed.
I like the 4 door Taco's, but the bed is too small, hence the Extracab I'd take.

I wonder what these other 4x4 SUVs are going to be like that was posted earlier.
If Toyota can come out with a no frills SUV like the Xterra, then they'd have a winner.
But I don't see this new model being taken on the Naches trail by me, or even on any of the other jams around the country.

The body cladding as mentioned does not flow well with it.
Who knows what one of these would look like with a lift and 33" tires.
I guess in a few months new buyers will search on the 'Net for forums, and maybe stumble in here or at the other forums, and we can get their retrospect and opinion on how well the '03 rig does off road, or at the mall

It's starting to look like maybe those of us with the first three generations may be the owners of the last and only REAL 4Runners, hmmm?

Thumbs down

Thanks for the pics guys. I don't like the looks at all. I think everyone has covered all the bases as far as comparasons to other makes...Toyota trying to attract the entire truck market...too many eggs in that (Tupperware) basket. Glad I have the 3rd gen. I better take real good care of mine.

It looks nice. But to me, it screams Hyundai Santa Fe. Esprecially around the headlights.
Also, where's the clearance. Any bowling alley or high-school speed bumb would have you wishing for heavy duty skid plates:eek:

I know one things for sure, I'll keep mine.
