The lower the number, the darker the tint. I think it has to do w/ the amount of sunlight that can come into the car.

It has something to do with the tint coming from the window manufacturer. From what the tint guy told me, there is no tint right out of the box that will match factory. Also, the tint color is a little different as the factory tint has a shade of brown in it. Can't tell from looking at it but that's what he told me.

what comes one most as factory is 15, toyota is a little lighter at 20, 20% will match, 35% is lighter than the factory tint. im not making stuff up, i am at my local tint shop all the time and could basically work there.

ya hutch is right, i work at the shop he goes too, btw 50% really only helps keep the heat down in your car but dosent change the apparence at all, its a total waste of money, depending on the color of you interior you can pull a 20% off as a 15%, when i had my first yota (90 4x4 xcab) i had 5% on the rear and 35% on the two side windows, and my last car i had 15% all around, on my new car (94 4runner) im gona get 5% rear and 15% on the sides with a 50% on the windshild, the 50 on the windshild will reduce glare, just rember when you get ur car tinted that the darker color ur interior is the darker the tint will seem to be form the out side, but 50% and 35% it dosent matter

regarding what is the best percentage tint, i currently have 20% on the fronts which is a pretty close match, but in my opinion, a *shade* too dark.

one thing i notice is that while turning at night, its very difficult to see out the left and right windows. i am considering switching to 35%.

i had 50% on my previous 4runner and it was too light. it did block the glare, but appearance-wise, it doesnt look that great

Bob, even my 35% on the fronts bother me a bit at night. Just to be sure, I lower my windows when parallel parking or such. It could be the age and the eyes going bad. Not as young as some of the people on this board.

Having said this, I do want a light tint on my front windows to darken up the insides. My black wet okoles will also help in darkening the interior from the outside.
