I'm trying to replace the shift lever seat in my 98 Tacoma, but I'm having trouble taking off the spring-loaded retainer cap. No matter how hard I push down, I can't seem to compress it far enough to turn and release. Anybody have any ideas or tricks?

I have a 92 pickup 2wd and I am having the same problem, I can't for the life of me get it to push down to release. If you have any tips please let me know.

Clamp it down in a vise and if you can't push it down get someone to help.

Or hit it with your purse.
