My 4Runner is supercharged with the URD 2.2" pulley and fuel upgrades. Puts down 240RWHP and 259RTWQ.

I need to tow my 2009 Dodge Challenger to the drag strip.

Car weighs 4300lbs and the trailer is 2400.

That's quite a bit over the 4Runner capacity of 5,000.

Track is 60 miles one way with one small section of hills on the highway.

Can this thing do it?

 

Can you? Yes. Should you? Probably not.

Does the trailer have brakes?

 

Trailer does have brakes.

 

Is the trailer tongue weight within your truck's specs ? Is your rear axle rated for 6800lbs ?

These are the questions you need to answer...

Can you tow it..probably. Can you do it safely without breaking anything.. ???????????

 

Dont be skeered I towed 8700 lbs with my n.a. v6 4runner. She didnt like it but she did it. make sure u got trailer brakes though. That was 50,000 miles ago and havent got any problems yet, Yotas are tough.

 

Make sure you have a good tune! That supercharger will create a ton of heat towing!

 

Overloaded and you could get a ticket...and get your ass sued off if you cause an accident...and then your insurance might not pay since you were overloaded.

In other words what kind of brakes are you running? Have you done the Tundra brake upgrade? The stock 4runner brakes are sure to be shot after a job like that.

 

Especially since you asked the question on a public forum.

Why haven't you done the Tundra brake upgrade yet???

 

more then enough power. its stoping that might be a problem. do the tundra brakes and you will be fine. i have a 97 2.7l 35s and it works. not fun tho

 

I have towed that much before. Handled it fine, just give your self plenty of extra braking room. Also turn the OD off so you don't burn up the converter lockup clutch.

Otherwise you should be fine. If you are going to rent a trailer be warned that uhual will not rent you a trailer if they know you will be towing that car and there insurance will not cover anything if something happened with that car on it.

If you have your own triler you should be fine. I HIGHLY doubt you would get a ticket for towing it, I have seen people tow some crazy things in my time and never heard of someone getting a ticket for it.

I would not do it on a regular basis but it should be fine every now and then.

I towed well over 4k lbs trailer plus an extra 5-800lbs in the cab/bed all the way from Seattle to east coast then south to north carolina, about 3500 miles total with a bone stock '00 Tacoma 3.4 (Manual tranny I should add...)

I still averaged 17mpg's on 87 octane, hahaha! doin' 70 mph for the most part. Had to slip the clutch to get her going in 1st, and even dropped into 4lo going over an exceptionally steep portion of the rockies but no issues afterwards; slight brake chatter at 55 mph but rocked 'em that way for another 3 years, hahahaha.

Let's turn this into a how ridiculous amount of weight has your taco/4runner pulled thread! hahaha

yeah, a wreck would have been bad though... insurance companies will find and exploit ANY loophole for sure to get out of payment

 

LOL, thats nothin, I towed somewhere around 7500-8000lb + another 1000lb+ in the cab with a trailer that might as well been a sail 1500 miles on a bone stock 2000 3.4l auto with transmission cooler in 110+ degree heat.

It did not like going over ~60mph but it made the trip fine. We loaded the trailer wrong on the return trip and got the "trailer sway" going good if we went too fast, that was scary.
