Need help with my 4runner

Stock 2wd 98 Sr5 100k

When at a stop and I put the truck into Park or Neutral the car idles at 2k, and when I put it into any drive or reverse gear the idle goes back to normal. Any ideas as to what this can be? No cel's.

is 2k higher or lower than normal? i know on my brothers GMC sierra when he putts it in park or neutral it idles up a little.

mine did the same thing until i replaced the TPS. Then i found out the TPS was fine, it was just not set right. Luckly i was able to return the new one.

How much did the tps cost you?

What do you have to do to set it?

Bump for more input......


Ok so I am not throwing a cel, and it only does this occasionally not everytime. After I go for a drive and get it warmed up, and then go to put the truck into park or neutral. The throttle jumps up to 2k and just stays there, even if I blip the throttle, it just goes back to 2k. Also while driveing it feels as if the truck coasts when I let off of the gas instead of deccelerating, I just thought that it was the weight of the truck, but it really kind of feels like the truck is fighting me, even under breaking it feels almost like I have my foot on the gas really lightly creating a light ressistance. So I work next to a Yota dealership and i get a 20% discount, so do you think I should just buy the tps and slap it on? If not what else could be causeing this?

Here are the TPS sensor readings from the FSM.

TP SENSOR RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS TABLE

(1) - Apply vacuum to throttle opener before checking TP

Here is the system component test:

THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
1) Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect electrical connector
from Throttle Position (TP) sensor mounted on side of throttle body.
Note terminal identification on TP sensor. See Fig. 7.
2) Apply vacuum to throttle opener. Using ohmmeter, check
resistance between specified terminals in relation to throttle
position. See THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR RESISTANCE table. Replace
components as necessary if resistance is not within specification.

Also, you may have a vacuum leak.

so i disconnect the tps sensor, then stick the volt meter into the sensor. Then test it without it running with the gas fully open and fully closed. But how do i apply vacum? By doing the test with the car running? Also what should i set the dials to on the volt meter?
