He was asking because the 2" and up BL's can affect Manual shifting. Even with my 1" BL my shifter was tighter and the throws were different. Not bad, just different.

That's exactly why I was asking. My 1" body made the shifter feel slightly different. If you go over 2", I would imagine that it could put enough pressure, front to back, that it would cause it to pop out of gear.

Try replacing the Shift Lever Seat. Mine was popping out of first for a while, then it stopped and it was popping out of third. I replaced the seat and it works great now. Can't explain how this fixed it but for a $19 part I am not going to complain. All the shops said it was the synchro and I needed a rebuilt tranny.

Mine (97 SR5, 5spd) does the first gear slip-BANG thing too. First time it happened I thought the chick behind me ran into me at the light, since it popped the truck so hard and made such a loud noise. I have 104k miles though (towing as well) so it's good to hear that the $19 part might fix it. How hard is that to replace? I've noticed that it's not always easy to shift, first is especially difficult when downshifting, so hopefully this fixes all that...

it's because the gear isn't pushed in all the way. Thats why it pops out. The 2nd gear problem sounds like your lugging it...

It is easy to replace. I found the detailed instructions somewhere on this site. Search on popping out of gear.
