My friends parents told him that he could have their 1995.5 tacoma. It's a 2.4L 5 speed 2wd. he wants to fix it up some and part of that plan is to lift it 2-3" and put some bigger tires on it. He wants to do this purely for looks, so no need for long travel stuff. He knows very litle about trucks, so he came to me for help. I personally am a jeep guy, so i'm coming to yall for help.

so how can we lift his truck cheaply and safely 2" or 3"
some options being thrown around are 1"BL, shackels, tightening torsion bars, things like that.
are there any parts from a junkyard that are usable? parts from a 4wd, other trucks, ect.?

Thanks in advance!

sure your askin for a "friend"... you sure you aint just a jeep guy thats converting over to the yota side? hahahah

it may be different here, but in the jeep world it pretty much a general consences that BL over ~1.5" aren't good because
1. ugly gaps
2. Large BL's put alot of extra stress on bolts.

I know ever truck i've ever seen with a BL over 1" looks ugly in my opinion, and i wouldnt put one on my vehicle.

maybe a cheeper 2" lift and a 1" BL?

It's ugly because it's a Jeep. LOL Just kidding! Actually on toyotas a 2" BL isn't bad and you can find ways to cover the gaps in the fender areas.

2. Large BL's put alot of extra stress on bolts.

If it is just for looks, it should be fine. Like I said, I would go with a 2" over 3", and that will give plenty of room for bigger tires.

Maybe, but it doesn't really seem like he cares since you're the one looking for him.

alrighty.
if we go with a 2" BL, do you think he could fit 30x9.5R15 tires on 15x7 rims with 3.75" backspacing if we extend the bumpstops? and possibly trim?

and yeah, to an extent a guess your right. he really just doesn't know much about trucks.

and can you try and verify the bolt pattern?

He can probably fit that size tire on that rim with no lift at all.

I think that bolt pattern sounds right, I'll look for sure.

edit: damn, those non prerunner 2wd tacomas have some tiny front wheel openings! I don't know what size will fit in there. ahaha I'm used to always saying that you can fit 33x10.5's on a stock toyota lol

yes, his bolt pattern is 5x4.5 or 5x114.3

yeah, they are kinda small. and the truck's pretty low in the weeds. haha

but fabtech says that size tire rim to work with there 3" kit for the truck with minor trimming. i assume that for offroading haha so i figured he could get away with it on the road with 2"

if not, i guess we could always add some spacers and shackles.
