Need help with electrical issues.

I was installing a new head unit the other day, I removed the center console and put the new HU in. Anywase, after I was done installing the head unit I started up the truck and the blinkers wouldn't work. Then I noticed that the back left tail light was out (this taillight is also cracked on the side and it's been raining a little)...

So I removed two of the fuses all the way on the left side under the steering wheel, and they were both fine... plugged them back in started the truck and blinkers were working.

A few hours later I had ran some speaker cables and such, and now once again the blinkers and back left light are out... The stereo also doesn't produce any sound, even though i'm positive I have it connected correctly. I assume this has to do with the electrical problem that is causing the blinkers to go out. I tried taking the fuses in and out again but that didn't fix it this time.

How should I go about troubleshooting this problem? I don't know much at all about cars / trucks mechanically... I was told there was a fuse box in under the hood, should I check that out next?

No, but, I really am stumped. Sounds like there is obviously a bad connection somewhere. I don't see how the new headunit could cause all these problems.

There are some electrical guru's around here somewheres...

yea, and why would removing the unblown fuses and putting them back in fix it temporarily... just wierd... the top left fuse in my fuse box is missing, is that supposed to have one?
