I need to add about 3/4" to the front of my 99 4Runner. It has OME coils all around. 881s on the front gives it a bit too much rake for my taste. I think about 3/4" will just about level it out. What is the best way to do this and where do I get the parts? Do I have to reassmble the coil and strut also?

 

i'd say your best bet would be to uprgrade to the 882s. a bit stiffer but .75-1" taller than the 881s. That would require taking the strut/coil sets off and replacing the coils. www.toyteclifts.com has them. just talk to dale over the phone and let him know what you want.

more cost effective route would be to get spacers, but that does decrease ride quality a wee bit. this also requires disassembly/reassembly. search around the forums for tons of info on spacers

 

What are you running in the rear? Just so we know what you are trying to level to. Im making a guess at 890's if you have the 881's with lots of rake. You can get a top out spacer that can be added without disassembly of the strut but will give you too much droop with the OMEs and no limiting straps which could eat cv's. so like said adding internal spacers will be your best bet...or do the tundra lift front end setup....or just fill up your front tires with extra air..haha
What do you measure fronty and rear? Also how long have they been on? The rears will settle some.

Couple of years now, so I doubt I'll get any more sag in the rear. I believe it's 890s in the rear, whatever the "medium" duty ones are. I'll take a pic and post.

 

crank the torsions for the front. A bit of a rough ride, but it will do the job.

 

He has coilovers up front.

 

get the ome 5mm front trim packers. I have 2 on each side. Sits nearly level. You'll have to disassemble your struts to put them on. They go between the lower spring keep and the ring welded to the strut cartridge. You might also want to get more than 2 for each side.

By the way, I'm going to put 285/75/16 on next month, will I have an issues with rubbing?

 

It depends, if you're going with a tire that has large sidewall tread, you might have a problem. Small or no sidewall tread should fit fine. My Procomp 285 muds don't rub at all.

 

Planning on trying the Kumho KL71 MT.

 

I would add a 3/4" lift top plate spacer from bamachem. Simple to do and will actually increase droop by 3/4". Wont affect your ride either.

882's and 881's are the same spring rate, just 20mm free height taller than the 881, and on a side note not designed for the taco, just prado... but works very well.

You currently have no more room than you did stock for tires, even with the OME lift. You will most likly rub at some point. If you search around you will see that most people that run 285's and wheel their 4runners also have a 1" RB BL.

 

How do you not have any more room than stock? I know there's more room in the wheel wells, right? Otherwise, what's the point of the lift?

 

You arent changing the pivot point nor the bumpstop location, so the travel arc doesnt change, the wheel/tire still moves to the same place it did prelift. All the lift does is increase ride height. So if it rubs stock it WILL rub with the lift, but you have to compress to that point. So if you do anything but mall crawl you'll find that rub spot again. Which is also why you dont want to lift it too much, you only have so much droop, which is what you want for wheeling, and each inch of lift (except top plate spacer lift) takes away that much droop.

 

does anyone know if its possible to add another 1 inch coil spring spacer on top of a 2.5 inch spacer? i would be able to tell if i had them both in my hand, but i only need like 1 more inch, and really cant afford a whole new lift kit right now.

 

I was in your same boat with the 881/890 set up. I opted to swap the 881 out for the 882 vs a spacer simply because after all the work of taking out your coil to put in a spacer you might as well have done a new set coils.

I did put a 10 mm trim packer in the rear and now it sits pretty level. I haven't been able to do an alignment yet but I don't think the lift should change anything drastic.

I also run a 285/75/16 MTR and I went with MT classic ii wheel 16*8 with a 3.5 backspacing. I have no rubbing issues and they look awesome!
