This is the third time this has happened. Last night while i was driving home it started to pour down rain. i get home, park the car and walk inside. this morning i decided to clean out the interior of my car. after removing my floor mats i noticed that the carpet in the drivers area was soaking wet . none of the carpet in the rest of the car was though, just the drivers area. i checked all the drain plugs to see if maybe one was loose or gone and theyre fine. There are no leaks coming through any part of the firewall or the door either. honestly im out of rational explanations for why this occuring. i drove home on city roads the whole time and dodged all the major puddles in the road. does anybody have any idea or explanation for me?

by the way i drive a 98 SR5 4x4 and i have husky liner floor mats throughout if that makes any difference. thanks in advance

 

Possibly the windshield. My truck leaks on the passenger side when it rains and soaks the carpet.

also check the grommet where all of the wiring from the engine bay enters the cab.

 

I just removed my whole interior (dash, carpet, wiring) yes, everything. At the top of the kick panel (where it meets the cowl) there is a very small hole. I'll be fixing this and some surface rust. This may be your source of water. I thought at first that my windshield was leaking also. I don't have any pictures, I can take some if you want.

(I didn't remove the interior to find where the water is coming from. This is my project truck).

I have this problem with my 96 limited also, I'm thinking it might be one of the drains for the sunroof came unhooked

 

on my 99, when i wash it or it rains, on the very top left corner of the inside windshield there'll be a couple drops.

This is the passenger side kickpanel. You can see the rust at the body seam.


This is the same area but from the outside (fender removed). You can see the little hole that is there.


It looks like the factory used some kind of foam to seal the seam, then they sprayed the paint over it. Any water will make this rust fast. My windsheild may in fact be leaking. I'm going to pull it out (needs to be replaced anyways) and see if there are any other rust holes. I'll be fixing them with the floor/trunk kit from POR15.

 

Has anyone found the fix for this? I had a wet floor this morning after my 4runner was parked all night. I'm think its the sunroof, the windshield or the drain for the grating by the windshield wipers.

 

well gee you give us 3 mystery sources not confirmed...since you haven't isolated the problem, how is there a fix ?

the fix is get your butt in the vehicle and pinpoint the cause

I had a similar situation but it was my seat that was getting soaking wet. I don't have a sun roof either. As it turns out, the roof rack mounts (i don't have a roof rack either, just the plastic "trim" peice) were leaking. Took them off, clean and resealed with silicon.. no more leaking. I had the same situation but my fix was very much different. My driver's side floormat was soaked after driving in the rain (like what was stated) except I could not find any trail of wetness anywhere. It turned out to be one of my body plugs was leaking from the outside. It leaked so much so that the carpet was getting moldy. I took out my body plug and filled it with silicone sealant and called it good!

Wow, same problem I have been having.

Several years ago, the passenger side was getting wet. It turned out to be that the A/C drain was clogged.

Now, the driver side is wet. I havent had the time to try to figure it out. I guess I will try to use some of these suggestions.

(I used to hang out here a lot several years ago. But since I changed my main ride over to a Nissan, I didn't have the time to drop in. Finally getting rid of it, so I am back!)

 

Ok,
I got around to taking a look yesterday and found that the person that installed the fog lights pulled a grommet out there seems to be a water trail that goes down the firewall and probably into the hole. I pushed the wires to the bottom of the hole and put the grommet back in. My carpet is still pretty wet so I may have to pull it up so it can dry.
