THE TRUCK
-1998 4Runner Limited 4x4
-It has all the options including leather, power everything, moonroof and roof rack. I have the running boards but they are not on the truck
-Locking rear diff
-265 tires on stock rims
-Pretty much stock all around
-103,000 miles
-Color green, tan interior
-In San Diego

THE DAMAGE
The car was parked and the guy hit it and pushed it into the car in front.
-Rear hatch smashed, window is unbroken and still works.
-Front and rear bumpers smashed
-Rt side front quarter panel bent
-Rear corner of body on Rt side bent but all glass is intact. The is the major damage area as it is basicly the whole body of the truck
-Some damage to the radiator supports on the Rt side.
-The truck runs fine and drives fine, the only thing is that the rear bumper rubs on the back Rt tire.
-No damage to the radiator
-I dont see that the frame is bent but it is possible.
-Engine just had the big 90k service 2 weeks ago! All fluids changed and everything under the timing cover replaced with new Totota parts.

I will try to get some pictures up in the next few days but I am really after a value so that I have some idea of how to negociate. Also let me know if you are interested in the vehicle. It would make a SWEET truggy or fixer upper project.

They are currently offering me $11,600 for the truck and I am going to need to bring them up a bit on that.

Any advice is appreciated.

$11.6k is pretty good for a 96-98 LTD. I say take it and run. $12k will get you into a nice '99 out here.

Who's your insurance carrier?

 

i personally think 11.6k is very good. for a cali 4runner. according to what you mentioned your truck is bone stock. Get similar priced 4runners and fight on that, unless u have other mods done you should provide documentation such as receipts.

 

I bought my 2000 limited for 10,900. You are very lucky to get that much for a 98

 

Do you guys think that I should try to keep the vehicle and sell it as a parts truck or just let the insurance have it. What do you think the value is as a parts truck?

depends on how much time you have, plus how much they will charge you to buy it back from them.

 

I would buy it back and fix it to keep for myself if I were you. You still know the history of the engine and everything else, which is better than buying anything else used.

 

that makes for poor resale value if its rebuilt. Just take the money and either A. Buy it back to part out (over time its $$$$) or just take the money and run.

 

Can you provide the receipts for the TB service and at least recoop that as well?
If you have the time,patience and place I would look into buying the salvage if its going to worth it in the long run

 

If you are truly getting that amount of money for it, it would better and less of a hassle, than parting out the truck.

Id say just take the money and buy a newer one.

Parting it out and shipping parts throughout the country gets old and the you're left with a mangled truck in your driveway for a year.

 

lol aint that the truth. PPLus once the suspension is gone, its really difficult to move.

dude! take the money! i bought my 2000 sr5 loaded--limited short of leather seats with a 5 speed for a little over 12k. youre making a steal for an early year 3rd gen. take the money and upgrade my friend. youll love the extra features and redesigned interior.

 

find out how much they want for the rig, my friend got 10k for his 96 and he got to keep it. you do have an e-locker, would be an easy swap into a newer one that doesn't come with the e-locker.

 

Or make it a sweet trail rig. Look on the bright side, you can't make it look any worse. Now all your poser buddies will be jelous when you go plowing up a hill scraping all the way. Hah!
