My "rock crushing" days are behind me.

I sometimes feel like an outsider in here because my 4Runner is bone stock. 1993 - V6, 5-spd, factory larger tires, steel rims, power everything, blah, blah, blah.....

Anyway, I really like how a lot of you guys have tricked out your rigs for some awesome 4 wheeling capabilities. I have spent many a day crushing rocks here in the mountains of Northern Colorado when I was a lot younger and more daring. Being 46 years of age now and a little more cautious, I have lost a lot of the "thrill" in heavy duty 4 wheeling. I now mostly just enjoy the trails, river beds, and "moderate" 4 wheeling that is still very available here in Colorado. So I hope you guys don't use it against me for not being "hard core" when it comes to off roading. I love my 4Runner and enjoy coming in here for the technical advise, the camaraderie, the stories, the questions, and just being able to hang with fellow 4Runner owners.

Thanks for the website. It's a great place and you fellas seem like a great bunch of guys.

Whitey, there is no shame in not doing this. I "soup" up my 4Runner alittle, but still have no place to off-road. I would love to off-road and get muddy, but there is no place around here where I can do so. It is just fun to drive a 4Runner and there is no shame in that what-so-ever! You will do what you want to, and that is fine with all of us here. We enjoy your imput and thoughts, and that is what counts, not what you do. Do not feel bad at all, you are who you are and that is why we like ya! Thanks for being here! We are glad to have you! :fireman:

Well, that's the great thing about this forum, nobody cares if you off road or not. In fact, I don't think anybody cares if you even own a toyota or not. The only thing that matters is the sharing of useful (and sometimes not useful) information.

Most people here don't do hardcore off roading and your stock 4runner is plenty capable for easy to moderate off roading. Check out my webpage for what your stock 93 is capable of, see the trail report section.

One of these days I'll head out to colorado to see the sights.

We don't care if you aren't hardcore anymore. No one will hold it against you or make fun of you on here. What's important is that you enjoy your vehicle and what you do with it.

I might make fun of you, but not because you don't off road. Anything in the name of fun.

Whitey, like the others said, nothing here should make you feel like an outsider.
I don't consider myself hardcore , and I'm sure my 4Runner doesn't consider itself either
I'm sure it would like to be, if my wallet was about 10" thicker.

I'm close to your age to, and I pretty much take it easy when I'm out in the hills.
No need to smash up the only vehicle I own.

When I was younger to I use to wheel some pretty hard stuff with friends.
Old FJ40s, full size trucks, ect, we beat the crap out of them.

For the kind of laid back wheelin' I do, look no further than my trail reports page.

I'm not out there to see if I can make it over a rock, or escape a king size dent in my rig.
I'm out there for the green trees, fresh air, snow, wild life, and just to have fun.
The Runner is quite capable in it's form to tackle a lot of stuff I run into.

Whitey,

You're not alone out there!

My 4Runner is stock except for different tires (original size). My mods have been mostly electronic (CB and experimenting with GPS and navigation software). There are a few things, like bumpers and a winch, and maybe some sliders, that are kind of a secret wish I have even though I don't really need them, so I might indulge myself there.

I see the 4Runner as a way to get to places that a regular car can't, so I can explore more countryside. More rough-road than off-road. Doing rock-crawling that breaks stuff, or mudding, is not for me for a variety of reasons. I just want to see the country, and I will get out and hike when it gets really nasty as long as I'm physically able. In some places, there are just too many miles of rough road to get to where I want to start walking!

Yeah I'm the same way. Couldn't have said it better, thats the reason why I wanted a 4x4. One snowy night trying to get home a 15min drive turned into 2 1/2 - 3 hours. That was in my mustang. I wanted something that if I felt I wanted to go out in the woods one weekend I could. One that I wouldn't be afraid of getting stuck in (as much heh). Plus the whole 4wd off-road outdoors thing interests me. I like to mod stuff too ( Just look at my puter ). That the thinking that has put me where I'm at now. Starting off with a stock truck and hopefully put to somewhere around the modification stance that corey's is at (heh man I love your 4runner ).

Thanks for the kind words fellas. Yeah, there isn't anything much better than loading up the Runner with some essentials, gassin 'er up, and heading to the hills, trails, woods, river beds, etc. It's cool when you get to a spot that looks good and ya pull off and get out and have bite to eat, a sip of what yer drinking, your other friends gathering around talking and swapping stories. It's fun to watch the other people with you as their rig slowly and surely "crawls" right over that log, or that rock, and then you follow right behind. I especially like when the trail has a few mud holes (not bogs), and you creep through 'em and then head up the hill of the trail to the next turn. I imagine the old cowboy from the days gone by felt the same bond with their horse as we do with our Runners. Sometimes we have had to get out and remove a few fallen trees just to get past!

I hope to get a newer 4Runner pretty soon so that I can "beast" out my 93 for strictly off roading.

Well, since Whitey has spoken up I will
too. I think I am probably the only girl
writing in on the forum. I was afraid to
introduce myself because I didn't want
you guys to think I was invading you
"guys only" space.

But I do enjoy writing in, you guys are cool.

Girls like trucks too you know. :alien:

He he, hey Cindy, I had no idea of your gender.
We do have a few women on the board here.

Sleepy1405, sassy4runnerchic, Funrunner & BigGirlToy.
I think that's about it for the women, but I could be wrong.

And what you said about girls liking trucks is all so very true.
I see a lot of women driving all 3 gens of 4Runners and truck around my town.

Second- were all here for the same purpose and you nailed it on the head Whitey, its about story swapping camaraderie.. Im almost stock, I still wheel, and I always park on the back 40 when I grocery shop to..

Now that we got this all out of our systems, I expect post counts to go up Cindy and Whitey!!

Whitney you think your alone. At least you have 4WD, I wussed out and got 2WD(stupid college budget wouldn't allow 4WD, and I just REALLY wanted a Runner one way or another). I don't know of many people in this forum w/ 2WD. But it never has really mattered here, everyone is here just to talk adn tell stories and learn from one anothers experiances. Even when I asked here about lifting my 2WD no one made fun(like alot of my "firends" did) everyone just chimed in and helped me get some ideas. I'm stock(4 now) and 2WD, but I still do what I can(only w/ 4WD buddies not far behind).

Welcome to the board Cindy. I think it's awsome to know a girl that is into trucks and especially 4Runners. Don't be shy, chime in whenever. No one really cares who you are or what you drive around here, guy or girl, stock or bad ass, it really doesn't matter. I guess that is what I love about this forum the most. Everyone seems to get along .

Cindy,
Welcome aboard,,,,Feel free to invade.

This is one of the most casual, friendly sites you could be a member of (at least I feel that way)
I have to admit that my Runner is basically stock, only because I haven't got the funds to go mod crazy, but I do get out in the dirt when I can.

Whitey,, I'm not into breaking my Runner either, those days are long past (see the "what was your first car" thread) even if I am only 30something. I do enjoy a good day of wheelin, but I don't feel like having to fix things on a weekly basis. So don't feel left out.
I think this site is more about the pride we feel and the fun we have, than being "hard core".

Hi guys:

Thank you soo much for making me feel
welcome. It's nice to talk to people who appreciate nice vehicles. Believe me I have had one of all the other vehicles out there and was not happy with them.

This is my first Toyota and I hope it is a
"4-runner 4-ever" for me. With support and loyaly like ours Toyota can't help but be susccessful!

OK, back to truck talk:

I think I have below stock on mine.
I don't have wheel fender trim or a side
step. I was going for the understated
simple elegance of I'll kick your ass if you get in my way. oooops! did I say that?

I guess I should have a few more inches of height on my Runner for that kind of talk.

Correction:

I meant to say running board not side
step. Since I don't have all the trim I
don't know what these parts are called.
But I am getting educated from your posts. I enjoy the pictures, keep it up.
