my quest for 20 mpg while towing 1k
#121
havent read the tread, but i got 20.11 today driving up the 395 from LA to mammoth. I was loaded down to move into an apartment + bicyle + jet ski on the trailer. I got 271.6 miles on 13.5 gallons. Im completely stock. only thing i did was oil change, tires pressure (32 then increased due to elevation). I was towing so i kept the speed 60-65 worked out great. ill see if i can get the pic off my phone for you to show what my set up was.

I think I ought to be able to get 400 miles to the tank. I usually fill up between half and 3/4 empty.. but I almost always get over 200 miles as the needle passes the half-tank mark - and 300 if I let it get down to 1/4 tank.
And this is with 32" tires!
I'll let you guys know what I get on this tank - it might be a couple of weeks though- I'm sitting at 3/4th of a tank right now.

Well, I filled up today, and I'm a huge fan of going slow now. I got 20.3mpg on this fill-up, as opposed to the previous several tanks being 17-18.5 max. I also noticed that my wife is a lot happier, as I'm not yelling at the guy in front of me to move over (the fast lane is not a parking lot!), and I still get everywhere I need to go. While gas is ~$4.00/gallon, I'll be driving slowly and calmly.

yeah. I got my scangauge and immediately started driving slow. now I been doing
it so much I prefer to drive slow (I mean, gentle acceleration and no sudden moves). when I do -get on it- like days of old I am surprised how much power my rig really has, and it is almost a shock that I used to consider that as weak !!!! what was weak was my driving habits.
I just got 25 miles per gallon out of my 4runner for 130 mile trip. large thunderstorms moving in at 45 mph and I was driving with their direction and got bursty 30-60mph tailwind for 2 hours.....I cheated...love having instant mpg computer to play with

I've been using my ScanGaugeII in my 1999 Accord 4 banger commuter car to maximize my mileage. If I keep a light foot on the pedal I can get close to 48mpg at 55mph. The down side is if I try to go that speed on the hwy I nearly get run over so 60-65 has had to be more the norm which drops me down to about 38mpg in that car.
I've yet to hook it up to my SC'd 4Runner. I curious what it'll say under boost with that 7th pumping in fuel.

BTW great username Man4God and props to your quotes.

Punching a cat is ILLEGAL for the streets andywhere you live. No matter if you have emissions tests or not. It is a federal regulation not a state regulation. Sorry for the bummer even though a lot of people do it.

Amen guys. I think every car should come standard with a real time gas mileage gauge (I think a lot do now a days). People would slow down considerably.
