Hey guys, I have been away for a while. I wanted to ask for some help with my truck problems. First off, the body is still hurting from the accident in Oregon. I haven't been able to take it to the body shop as of yet. My 3.0 V6 has been running rough lately with no power (it never really had any). It idles at only 500 rpm at times, and the exhaust smells pretty rich. I replaced the plugs/wires/cap/rotor and there was no change. I suspect that the O2 sensor might need to be replaced, since it runs rich and slow, and gets really bad gas mileage. I used to be able to go 300 miles on a tank and now only get 200 or less. It got a little sluggish after going from the 31x10.5's to the 31x12.5's but this is just terrible. I also get the check engine light coming on when it is idling. Any ideas? How much is an O2 sensor anyhow? Thanks.

 

See if you can pull a code from that check engine light before you go buying parts. A haynes manual or chiltons will be able to tell you what it means.

O2 sensors are in the $150 range.

If it's running rich, it's probably because the computer is telling it to. The O2 sensor is a definite culprit in that equation. I'd just see if I could get the codes before I went and bought a $150 part.

If you do end up needing an oxygen sensor, go to oxygensensors.com. Get their generic O2 sensor for half the cost of the one listed for your vehicle, and use the plug already on your vehicle.

 

Sounds like your cat is clogged to me.. O2 sensor may of caused it though..

 

I second the cat as well. I am just running a pipe though mine to get me by until I have the money to buy a high flow one.

 

Y'know, as many times as I've heard people suggest this I've never actually seen one get clogged. I can see how someone would think a convertor is partially clogged if they've never looked through one before, the honeycomb structure obstructs the light except for where you're looking right down the holes. It's a red herring if you ask me, just get those codes and report back. Then we can start making educated guesses instead of shots in the dark.
