I came to this forum to research my 2nd Gen 4Runner purchase and am already addicted. Thanks for all your advice and answers!

92 SR5 V6. I'm a very proud pappa!



Has anyone seen a stock 2nd Gen w/out the rear end sag? It's not apparent due to the angle of the picture and surface but my truck definitely does not have that - if anything it's slightly nose-down. The guy I bought it from is the second owner and doesn't know anything about a spring upgrade. I have a stack of receipts, etc. an inch thick going clear back to the original sale documents and window sticker. A cursory glance through did not reveal springs, but it might take more searching - that's a lot of stuff! Otherwise it appears to be bone-stock.

What's a typical center of wheel to top of arch height in the rear?

First of all, I'd like to mention that is a sweet looking "rig"-as everyone seems to call them here.

I also would like to mention that I love the way the rear end of my track snags (I own a 2nd GEN PICK-UP). I've always liked that look as to opposed. Of course, nothing meets the classy look of it being level, but I have no problem with the look of mine.

Oh, I got the mod bug before I ever came here. I had a heavily modded V8 CJ-5 "back in the day" and am currently a moderator at ClubWRX.net - my primary car is a Subaru WRX with a bunch of suspension mods. My wife is just THRILLED that I have another project vehicle. :

The fact that she loves wheelin' and campin' is the only reason she tolerated the purchase!

Yeah, I kinda like the look as well. But I'm suspecting that mine might already be lifted in the rear. I just went out and measured 13" from the top of the rear wheel to the top of the arch - and that's on a pretty good slope. I'll have to measure, but I bet it's at least 13.5" on level ground. That's what a lot of people report w/ taller springs out back.

I'm curious too...does anyone know the stock height, either bumper or center of the rear wheel to top of the arch measurement??
Maybe if someone on the forum happens to have a stock rig with no sag they could pass it on?

Does the sag just happen in random 2gens? I've seen 4Runners rolling around with people who look like they wouldn't have the first clue what to do about that. Mine's gotten so bad from romping that it looks like those "pre-runners" with just the front lifted.

somebody on here has a page on their site that has actual measurements of this kind of stuff for all the years of 4runners but I can't remember who. if my brain farts and I can remember it, I'll post the page here.

I've only measured two 2nd Gens to date, but I've only measured the fender height measurements from one. I measured ground to fender, not hub to fender. The latter is probably more accurate, but oh well. Take it for what it's worth. The 4Runner had the common sag issue. Anyway, it was 34.5".
