Whenever I start the car up and put it in reverse, to back out of a parking spot etc, the car produces a whine or like a high pitched grind noise from the front, but as soon as I stop and put it in drive it goes away, any thoughts?

Well, if it's a standard transmission, that's actually normal for the reverse gear to 'whine'

 

Auto. And hte problem has just started, do you think cold weather has anything to do with it?

mine chirps when i first start her up cold, and i think its a belt problem.

my sister's old auto crv did.

 

I've never driven one that has.
Maybe it was just in the older cars.
