after looking at the rear end of my 4runner for a long time i discovered that the passenger side is about an inch lower than the driver side. i first assumed it was a torsion bar problem but after really measuring stuff it turns out that only the body is lower so i believe that there is a problem with one of my body mounts. do you like something like an energy suspension will fix this or manybe a one inch body lift or what. and has this happened to anyone else. i do remember someone on here that there body lift mount was denting up though their body which caused them to lean so do is it possible for my stock body mounts to do this also?

gas tank is weighing it down. do you have a full tank?

 

The improper installation of Bilstein shocks on one side of the 3rd gen has been known to cause about 1" height difference...

 

even on an empty take it is like this and i have enough weight on the other side to off set that. and rick F. i don't think it has anything to do with the shocks b/c the suspension is all level it's just the body that has the lean.

 

I would check all body mounts to see if all mounts are in place, sometimes the bushings get worn out. GOOD LUCK!

 

98 yota, i think that's my issue but would it cause that much of a lean. i'm talkin about a good inch or more.

 

Yes it would a guy i work with has a 72 chevy right front sits lower about 1/2 inch......we got to lookin and one of his core support bushings has rotted away. replace it and it should make your body sit level. if u say your frame sits the same height all the way around then its your body mounts. GOOD LUCK

 

Mine does the same thing, only one of my springs is shot.

I need some new ones, for sure.

 

First Gens have leaf springs in the rear, cant be the shocks.

884runner, do you have a body lift? This is what happens when you use smaller than stock body lift blocks :pat: Thats why my trucks slanted to one side...

Is your front end leveled? T-bars could be loose?

 

YEs, inspect the body mount bushings, there are ten in all. When I first got my '85, and was looking it over, I found one rear mount was totally missing and the two up front were nearly gone due to an improperly installed front bumper. I image the PO owner had the rubber bushings fall out in back and then the loose bolt was rattling. I imagine he was quite proud of finding the source of the noise and pulled out this bolt, "fixing" the problem (NOT!). NEw bushings can make a huge improvement in the ride and quietness:

cabbage, i remember seeing those pictures and that's what gave me the idea it might be the mounts. which i now look at the bushings and they are pretty bad considereing they are 18 years old. will new stock ones be better than buying the energy suspensions that are made out of the polyurethane ones?

4crawler i now see that you sell these things so i will probably be looking to you to fix the problem rather than the "energy suspension" sold at 4wp.

 

I don't recall noticing an uneven body, but was not really looking for that either. The way to tell is to park on some level, flat ground and then take measurements from the ground to the frame and ground to the body at various points on each side and see if there is any variations between the two, side to side. Maybe you have already done that.

I think you'll find new rubber bushings from Toyota to be VERY expensive. I have heard they run many hundreds of dollars. Polyurethane works well, it does not squeak, it is not harsher riding than rubber, it costs less and it last longer.
