Im considering re-gearing. My 4R is so damn heavy and i believe its killing my power and gas mileage, even with the Supercharger. I have 265s now, but would love to get back to 33s next time, hopefully 305s. 4.56 v. 4.88 ????? Such a dilema, but plenty of time to make the right decision.
I love the 4.88's. Bamachem is going 4.56 with his auto and 33's, but I believe that most people go with 4.88's for the little extra performance to move the extra weight of the offroad parts. So far my gas mileage still sucks, but I think I also have a bad 02 sensor that I'll be changing soon to hopefully help out with that. I hope the backup o2 is good-I got it from a junkyard from a low mileage 4Runner in a trade-1 set running boards for front o2 sensor, rear o2 sensor, tps, and maf.

Yea i know most with 285s go with 4.88s, but my 4Runner is different than mosts. Its very heavy (as you know, thanks to mr banse!) and its supercharged.

See you in a couple weeks.

Yeah, with a supercharger you may want 4.56's, just not sure though. I know the 4.88's are my best mod since the locker.

I'm basically average 16.5 mpg (corrected with 13%) city driving.

Highway probably 17, but haven't gotten to test long distances yet

both of your numbers are about 1.5-3 mpg better than mine right now.

I think Im getting robbed of low-end power coming from the ring & pinion. My acceleration still isnt great, even with the S/C. Cant decide if 4.56 is enough or 4.88 is needed. I'd like the perfect balance of city torque and highway RPMs. I do lots of 70-75mph highway traveling.

I need to talk to Jeff the Marmot (4.88) and Dave Delaney (4.56), both S/C'd.

if you're leaning more towards highway rpms, I'd go for the 4.56's. I wish I did.

Just to give you an example, 70 mph for me is at 2500-2600 rpm

except I have no extra weight whatsoever, just tires.

Sliders? Rear bumper? Skid plate? Nothing extra?

Its not that I'm leaning towards highway RPMs or city driving. Im trying to balance the two.

Mark has a supercharger and 4.88's doesn't he? Bratik also has 4.88's but no supercharger.

oh, i forgot about the sliders and skid, the bumper is just the stock one painted black.

and it's 70 mph, not 60. My speedo says 60 lol, but i'm really goin 70. (found that out 2 weeks ago when I got a speeding ticket)

I think 4:56's would be optimal. I had 4:88 briefly with my S/C 4runner. IMOP the RPM's were too high at 75 mph. If you are looking for 4:88's, I have my front IFS for sale if interested. Only has a few miles on it from Randy;s Ring and Pinion.

I would just like to say 2 things about my weekend:

1) I filled up at $1.98 regular shell gas!!!

2) I got 250 miles to the tank WITHOUT the gas light coming on yet and WITHOUT correcting the odo. With the 13% correction, the supposedly "real" mileage would be 282.5!!! So freakin awesome!!!

Wow, I have noticed a big difference between driving 60-65 and 75-80 for sure. But I've never gone that many miles on a tank, although I think my fuel gauge reads wrong.

I've had Yukons for almost 2 years now and I haven't had a problem with my 4.88's. This is the first I've heard of Yukons being bad.

But if they're starting to use chinese steel, maybe Harbor Freight will start selling them cheap.

Well, how much tax did you have to pay buying them instate and how far did you have to drive to get them? That usually evens out the shipping in my book.
