I'm guessing that since it worked before and you haven't done any kind of work to any of the transfer case or differential, then its got to be a loose wire or vacuum hose somewhere. I'm not really sure where you need to start though.

na, i've been pulled out before, and i've been the pulley. its just a part of the game. i got stuck in the mud hole a 74 bronco on 36's dug. had a 77 gmc on 36 tsl's try to pull me out, he got stuck in the mud. had to get the tow rig for the bronco, F350 down to where we were and pulled us out.

This was a simple fix for me when mine wouldn't engage. Look on the passenger side fender under the hood and notice where the vacuum lines go through the fender to a canister. Well right there on the fender should be a little one way valve. Ok get in, start the truck, put it in 4wd and in park. Get out and pull the vacuum line off that one way valve....it should be a little round inline filter looking thing. you should have vacuum before the valve and after it. If not....the valve is faulty...but what I did with mine was blow through it and spit in it and instantly after hooking it up the light came on and 4wd was engaged.
