Ignition Wires

I have a '91 4Runner and am replacing the ignition wires. I broke the distributor cap trying to remove the end of one wire... but it was all fuzed in there. But that's not the problem. I also can't seem to open a clip that is holding some wires together/off the engine. They are on the left side. I know this is a terrible description, but I can email pics if you want. I will try to post some when not so tired.

If anyone can help I'd be greatful!

Dylan

Hey! Welcome to the forums!

You should just replace the cap. You can get one from Toyota for cheap. I would probably be a good idea to replace the rotor button while you are at it too.

As far as the clip goes, I'm not sure. I don't remember any clips on mine other than the one that the wires kind of snap into (sort of like the 4 that run along the top of the timing cover). I'll look in the morning though.

Well, have fun
Daniel

Yeah, it is different than the four on the timing cover... (which I have to replace too) to the left and closer to the other ends of the wires. It just binds two of them together, and is a pain to get off. I may just cut it and clamp them back on.

Yeah, I am going to replace the cap too. It's something like $12, no biggie.

Thanks a ton.

Question Two more quick questions

So I broke the distributor cap and got another. I am going to cut the clip off, and get a metal clamp and reattach the new cables (once in). Finally, though, I want to ask:

1. What kind of grease should I use when reinstalling the new distributor cap?

and...

2. Is it important/what kind of electrical connection lubricant should I use on the ignition wire connections. Seems pretty important to me, seeing as my last cables were welded to the distributor cap. Some suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot for all your help!!!!
