musty smell from heater

Greetings The heater in my 01 Tacoma emits a musty smell when in low speed use.

Anyone experience this? Any ideas as to what causes this or how to eliminate the odor?

I have run the fan at high speed with the switch to the outside air on cold to try and blow out any stuff, no fix, still stinks.

Any helps would be greatly appreciated thanks

Could the smell possibly be antifreeze? If so, you are probably on the verge of a failing heater core. As for fixes; you can replace the heater core (PITA and costs lots because of labor), or try an additive sealant. Neither of these things will get rid of the smell. It is already in your duct work. I just had to replace heater core in my wife Durango and it still smelled for a while after, but I cleaned the heck out of it and used a lot of Fabreeze in any foam or rubber parts. It doesn't smell so bad today, but I can still smell it when you first kick on the air.
