I think this is all a bunch of hot air!,Lol. All I can tell you is that my Tacoma loves cool or cold days much better than hot days. Also my brother is a pilot and he likes to fly on cool clear days much better than hot day's .

To help my MPG I did a mod that is a bit on hte high tech side. I went and bought a 02 mazda protege. It is a mod rated at about 3 sockets, but well worth the time and money. Went from 14 MPG to 30 MPG. Well I guess it is actally a mod for the old Mini Van, since it is gone now.
Now I just need to find a good site for mods for it. NOOOOOO COFFEE Can exhaust. Hate that, but a little tweaking under the hood ill happen I am sure.

In the winter you will get worse MPG for at least two reasons. Increased drag from denser air and longer warmup time. You may have less rolling resistance due to stiffer rubber (have fun flamers) but that will be a very small change. Rolling resistance I think is around 3% for good tires. Now your car may be happier in the winter because the denser air gives more hp.

I have over 25 years of mileage records and I actually had been plotting them. Over the years, my mileage curves looked like a sine wave with the valleys in the winters and the peaks in the summers. Can't dispute that, regardless of all the positive and negative reasons we list.

After a fill-up this morning I came up with 15.38 mpg. I may need o2 sensors and I smell gas after shut off.

I use this truck 30% in-town driving, 70% expressway

I have a 86 pu with 186k, new head gasket, timing chain, cam, tps, plugs, wires, rotor & cap. Actually just got the thing running last week. But the real crappy mileage is what I'm wondering about. I also have 31"x10.5 BFG ATs. Gearing is stock. Havent used my GPS to see if my speedo is right yet though.

Got any ideas?

-Steven

cool days=more dense air=more air molecules in your engine=more power=tacoma like

cool days=more aerodynamic drag=tacoma doesnt notice because of more power.

I just bought an 89 4runner last month and love it. Gave it a tune up, new plugs etc, and I am getting 21mpg. ( I do allot of hwy driving.) I follow must of the tips that have been stated to save fuel and get better mileage. BUT...there comes a time when you just need to pop the top off, crank up the tunes and go for a drive in the mud!!!!

If things get much worse, I'll ride my bike to work and save the gas for the weekend!!!!

Low-friction muffler bearings gave me 2 or 3 mpg.
